Looking to buy a C7.5, need some help!

Post by bigbass » Sun Jun 28, 2020 6:31 pm

Hi everyone,

Hoping to purchase a facelift rs6, really struggling to find anything with the right options (dynamic, pan roof, assistance pack, advanced parking pack top view cam).

I currently have an A45 which I’m getting very low offers on from the dealers which isn’t helping.

The only car I can find that ticks all the boxes and has a nice colour is this: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... 3168500137

I’ve search far and wide, cant find anything similar (ideally not a black or white car).

However, the mileage is really quite high compared to other 2016 cars. Would this dissuade you? Is the price too high?

I’ve search far and wide, cant find anything similar (ideally not a black or white car).

Thank you for reading, hoping to join as a fellow owner here soon!

Hey there,

I’ve always been in the camp of buy on condition not on mileage. This obviously comes with its limits. And my opinion is that this would be my limit on mileage for the year. For example, when I was searching until when I bought. Which was from sept last year until last month. My criteria was very similar. I ultimately made compromises from my perfect spec, but ultimately only you know what you’re willing to sacrifice and what you won’t.

But getting back to the mileage of this one. My way of figuring it out would be; with your miles per annum For the life of your ownership will it hit 100k? As that seems to be the point that most people walk away! And it means if you do go over 100k the residual value will take a hit. Regardless of its condition.

Like I say ultimately only you know the answers to what your willing to sacrifice.

Good luck with the search dude,

Craig.

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your input, that has skewed me away from this car. I had not thought of the 100k being a big hit in terms of value, if the car is as good as everyone says then I am likely to go over it.

Looks like the search continues.

I would be if the price was right, the performance cars usually stretch my budget.

Hi and welcome (soon!)....

Yeah I would say its too high mileage, but like others have said, depends on how many miles you are going to do....

I think you may need to prioritise your spec as you may not get everything...

Personally I wouldn't rule out a pre-FL car with lower miles... but I am bias

This one is a nice spec and a few less miles....

https://usedcars.audi.co.uk/usedcar/aud ... 052792.htm#

Its just a waiting game as the right car will come along... just depends how long you can hold on!!
Good luck.

I'm in the same boat.

I've been looking for a few months now and can't find the right car having missed out on a Misano during lockdown. I would say that mileage is well over what I would consider for its age but then if it's been correctly serviced and 1 or 2 owners then it could be a good car and certainly looks nice.

I found a 66 plate that ticked every box but it's had 4 previous owners which breaks one of my rules as well as not being able to get hold of the dealer to query the fact that it mentions both air suspension and DRC in his ad and that the Exclusive colour cost £5k and then £6K!

I've noticed that prices seem to be coming down and even Audi appear to be dropping their used prices so I'll just keep looking

Good luck with your search.

Mine will pass 100k miles this week - still as strong and reliable as ever. My last two RS6's had 138K (then I drowned it!), and nearly 200K on the clock with no problems.

Age is a far bigger killer as the rubber components etc tend to start failing.

Enjoy whatever you get

Dave

I went in the opposite direction which was I bought an A45 after giving back my FL RS6 (loaded to the hilt). Wanted a cheaper performance car and whilst it’s an unfair comparison I quickly learned that I’d made a huge mistake.
By far hands down THE worst car I ever owned. An insult to the AMG brand and I wanted to burn it.
As for a FL one keep looking-generally it takes me around 3 months to find the right car. In the current climate-which threatens to get worse, lots of people are/will be seeking to offload expensive overheads as their finance situation changes. Good time to grab a decent bargain so hold off and wait for the right one.

Hello and thank you!

I think I may have to, the only problem then is the car is usually black or grey which I’m not a fan of.

Maybe I’m being too picky but I’d like a red a blue car.

Hopefully we will be posting collection photos soon!

I think it’s just a case of holding out, you can see the same cars have been sitting around for a while so prices will come down like you say. I just can’t even find one I like.

Yeah I too like the Misano and was so close to buying one, it looked great with the black pack, I was waiting for the dealer to get back to me and then when he did, it was to tell me about the Riviera one that I ended up buying...
A lot of people dont like red and even a sales man at Audi told me that Red cars are harder to shift so they value them less when they buy them ??!! But I think on the RS6 it looks really good.

I know what you mean about the colour, I was the same and didn't want black or daytona or white really...

For me (in priority order - if this is of any help) it was:

Colour - Exclusive, Estoril, Misano, Nardo, Silver (must have)
Mileage 30K max (for me I would rather have lower miles and a pre-fl car)
Black interior (must have)
21" Wheels (must have)
Dynamic Pack - DRC (must have, after test driving 4, two on DRC, 2 on air)
Sports Exhaust (must have, didnt want to fit an aftermarket exhaust that might effect warranty)
Black Pack (exterior trim) (nice to have)
Interior Carbon (nice to have)
Privacy rear glass (nice to have)
Ceramic Brakes (nice to have but unlikely to get)
Pan Roof (nice to have and was advised to get by a number of dealers - but now dont use it and more to go wrong in the future and Audi want £200 to service it)!!
HUD (nice to have)

Any other extras a bonus....

This looks nice...
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... UDI&page=1

Also, dont be put off buying one from a Specialist\Private as you can always get an Approved Audi warranty on it (that is what I did) BUT just budget for this as the warranty will most likely cost you around £1K for the first year.... IF you get the reg plate, you can go onto Audi site and find out the cost.... https://www.insurewithaudi.co.uk/extended-warranty

Cheers,
Lig.

That's really quite funny. I ran a C5 RS6 for 7 years and then bought a new, 2014 A45 myself and it just didn't cut it for me either although I did keep it for 3.5 yrs. Sold that and bought the RS4 cos I missed a V8 in my life! I'm a far happier man now but would agree with you, I thought the build quality was no where near as good or the AWD system compared to a quattro. Had more fun driving my wife's S3.

Lig, have to laugh as I've been holding out for a Riviera Blue as I love the colour of my RS4 so much that's what I'm struggling to find. Top 555 had one a number of months ago but didn't act quick enough and this one's been reduced by 3K since it was originally posted but not convinced. The exclusive colour was a £2K option to my knowledge or certainly was on mine!
Pretty much agree with your spec although HUD would be further up the list. I'd also prefer a FL car to be honest.

Too late for you but might help others...
Not sure why you'd have 21" wheels as a must have. They are so easy to change, I would definitely not stop buying a car just for a set of wheels. And further to that, I recently sold a set of the standard 20s for more than the 21s are selling for now. No-one wants the 21's because they are made of chocolate (unless you go for the Performance 21s).
I agree about pan roof, no-one uses it and just another place for water to leak in from but most people want a car with it. I specced mine from new without.
Sports exhaust; again, I wouldn't let this stop me buying a car even if you were worried about warranty issues for aftermarket. I don't think I ever heard of any warranty work refused because of a exhaust other than one guy who they made him go put the standard one back on first but still honoured the warranty. More importantly, there are loads of sports exhausts at places like MRC where people upgrade and the old one doesn't fit into the car so they leave them there. Normally pick one up for £100 to £200. And if you don't change the silver tips no dealer would be able to spot the difference. Even with the tips I doubt they would spot it.
Main priorities if I was buying one would be to get the options you can't change afterwards like DRC or air suspension. Get that wrong and the whole experience could be ruined and nothing you can do other than sell the car and buy another one. Colour can be change with a wrap if you are that way inclined.
Connect; not simple to retro fit.
Adaptive cruise expensive to retrofit but not impossible.
360 degree cameras expensive to retrofit but not impossible.
Keyless entry the same.
Exterior colour pack the same.
interior trim the same
HUD requires new dashboard and windscreen to retrofit so will be too expensive.
Privacy glass easy to fix

Also, the higher number of owners the better. People always treat their cars better when they are new. They only stop caring so much about them after a while. Lots of owners normally means no-one has had it long enough to stop caring about it.
