Which octane booster

Post by Asian Panda » Sun Jun 21, 2020 11:09 am

Guys, as the title says.
I'm wanting to know who is using an octane booster and which one?

We in Northern Ireland seem to only have that I know of BP Ultimate 97ron.
I have a stage 2 re-map and using Lucas racing octane booster, which I believe only offers a 3 point boost. I've heard VP racing is good as it can offer up to 8 points. But based on fuel tank size you'd need 2 of these.

Any thoughts???

I see there hasn't been any response - But I do have the following to offer to each and every RS6 owner... Don't be trying to run these beasts on normal unleaded.... You will absolutely experience issues in the long term.
To the OP - I guess I am quite lucky in that I can use the premium 99RON from Tesco. The car loves it... Are there no Tesco's in NI?

98 is better than the normal uk standard which is 95. 'Super' unleaded in the uk is 97-99 ron. I think there was some 102 available once but I think that has gone now. Remapped car are normally set up to run on 98 or 99 ron.

On stock car I think 98 is optimal, no need higher octane, as Audi bulletin states that 95-98 on a petrol opener small doors written

The advice to me from an independent Audi specialist with 40 years+ experience is:
To use the best fuel available at the time... The odd tank of standard unleaded isn't going to damage anything, but in his experience, the sustained usage of 95 RON has proved to cause fuel system issues on these engines in the long term.

FYI: Seen this?

You then get to play with the Octane rating.

Sorry been busy and haven't been on here.

I'm running super at 97ron. Unfortunately the Tesco over here doesn't keep the 99, so the 97 from BP is the best I can get.
I've always run super. But have also been using VP racing octane booster. Should give me up to additional 7 points meaning I should be getting close to 104ron.

I need it as I'm running a stage 2 setup.

But to answer my own query and speaking with a few companies; on a full tank you will require 2 bottles of VP racing. My fuel cost has just emptied my bank account 😭

I'd be very wary of the claims made by the octane booster suppliers (all of them!). They are more likely to increase your RON by 0.3, not 3, and with some of them that's not with a full tank of juice either (so read the small print).

Take a read of this review ... https://www.fuelexpert.co.za/Octane-Boo ... ootout.php

They also have a limited shelf life too.

Hi mate, I had the same problem with my R35 GTR I used NF octane which worked.
My current c7 rs6 I sent over to mrc over lockdown and it was mapped on our BP super. I'm going back over with some octane to get another map added for octane .

Iys ridiculous we're held back by lack of tuners and fuel here.

we don't get anything above 95 octane here, and pretty much all of the local mappers recommend NF octane booster as giving the most predictable result

I spoke to a few boys from the local motorstore, they recommend that unless you're doing a lot of tracking or racing in general 😜 then maybe stay off the octane booster. One of the guys they know used to run VP racing in his dodge viper. Apparently too much of it could cause potential engine damage.
I'd say most if not all tuners in NI will setup for our 97ron fuel.
I use BP ultimate and to be safe will probably not stray from them. I agree that we are held back by the lack of tuners and fuel. Why Tesco don't sell their 99ron over here is beyond me; in fact why no one sells 99ron over here is beyond me!
Tuners are few and far between, one in Kells, Lisburn, Lisburn/Moira and a select few others.

No FB. Told the boys at NIAOC that but to keep me posted on meets via IG.

NF octane booster, I ran it every tank on my gtr as I had a 99ron map aswell as the 97ron. The 99map was more fun lol.. Scott Girvan from the club was at my house yesterday and he also runs an octane booster every tank in his S4.
Yeah I've dealt with davey in torquetronix before with another car, he was seriously unhelpful and rude. Gavin at Blackline on the Moira Rd is an agent for Celtic Tuning, I'm running mrc stage 2 which I'm not overly happy with. The car went over on a transporter through lock down with me at home. I might drive over and get the maps tweaked, cylinder on demand removed and the excessive bangs on let off dialled down a bit
