So I posted this in the C8 section but the C7 RS6 is also in the mix
I was planning on waiting another year or so for the prices of the C8s to drop to around 80k for a second hand model and then buy my dream RS6 which ive been itching for, for ages now
I then had a separate thought that I wanted to run past you all.
Forget the RS6........
But a second hand Lotus exige 380 or 410 for simply as a toy and then use the change to buy something sensible like a golf r estate as the practical family car
what do you think???

Well it’s 2 different cars, rs6 family car together gives you sport and brutality, lotus is only a third car in a family in my opinion, I am talking about practicality that rs6 can offer you. If you have rs6 then you can look for 2 door car like r8 or Mercedes amg gtr, but if you have only one car in a family for example like Toyota Prius I would go for Rs6 . In my mind in a family should be good strong family car and then another car for weekends or race track days)

I used to follow that policy with various cars (Lotus, Porsche) combined with a cooking estate (mid-range MB) but I found that there was almost always a reason why I needed to take the practical car on any given journey, so the sports car just stayed in the garage. I eventually changed my stance and decided to combine all possible car requirements in a single vehicle, hence the the RS6. It can blast down the road as fast as anything, and it can lug a load of stuff to the tip. It doesn't do either job as well as the former, specialist vehicle, but it makes a decent job of both.
Yes, I miss the precision of a sports car, but those "early Sunday morning" blasts were mostly just a fantasy, anyway. Either they didn't happen at all or, when they did, I found that the roads were more crowded than expected and I ended up in a procession of vehicles, hungrily waiting for the elusive overtake that was mostly spoiled by cars coming the other way.
At least, this way I don't pay to keep two cars running while only using one of them.

My mate has a 2015 F10 M5 and it's night and day different in power delivery. Personally I find the Beemer more comfy. BM can't get it's power down like the 6 can; drop the temp below 3C and the M5 will wonder where the 6 has gone. Drop the temp below 0C and my mate doesn't bother taking it out as the ESP light stays on most of the time, unless he's driving it like Miss Daisy is sat in the back.
You won't regret it. yes it's heavy, but you aren't throwing it around B roads; If I had to transport my family across the country in terrible weather to quickly get from A - B - this would be the car of choice. I did have an order on a C8, but have decided to wait until the performance version comes out.

I replied in the other thread about getting the RS6, however, if I wan in the market for a new car right now I think I'd be going for similar to Iain above. You can get an almost new M5 Competition for £60k to 65k and this was before this virus nonsense, probably even cheaper now. Not as mean looking as the RS6 but some people prefer a more stealth looking car. I haven't driven one but they sound like fun to drive and are silly quick and AWD too (or RWD if you prefer). Smaller boot obviously but has already taken the depreciation hit, maybe get a facelift / Performance C8 in a few years as the replacement for the M5.

Still wonder how Audi couldn’t make c8 faster than m5 or e63s

I'm sure the Performance edition will be significantly quicker; I guess is might boil down to whether the senior management would want an Audi becoming a Halo model with the same or more power than the Panamera Turbo Se Hybrid; I remember reading an article a while back about it, as initially there was talk of the new RS6 having a similar/same set up as the SE Hybrid....maybe that will follow with the Performance edition....

Right now I see a different question. Audi have quit DTM, so they are definitely looking at their plans and market proposition. There’s a big focus on the EV range.
The Porsche EV drivetrain is married to a PDK gearbox. It’s not a lift and shift. Added to which it’ll be substantially more expensive. That market is already cramped, I can’t see this being viable.
Add this to the fact that sales have fallen off a cliff, finance has become more difficult and will continue to do so as we start to see defaults. Low rates doesn’t mean plentiful availability.
The question is whether they’ll deliver a performance model at all.

Thats a great observation and a valid point. I wonder if the E-tron GT will be the next RS per se

I dont think the 22" wheels help with the 0-60 times etc. I quite like the boggo 21s on the configurator, but i havent seen anything other thans car tested with the 22s yet.
Edit this squeezes out at 3.84 0-60 on dragy..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VuXk-Mq4Nk my stock 560hp gets 3.5s all the time - its the 22 wheels not doing it any favours.
