Has anybody ever gotten to the bottom of this???

Post by Parkerdan » Tue Apr 07, 2020 4:41 pm

Start/Stop System Fault
System Unavailable

Got this again today, planted the throttle & 2 seconds later revs die, eng management light on displaying the error above. Then it drives as normal still displaying the error. Stop car, restart & error goes away.

I've seen a few people have had this issue but never have I read a solution. I've not got a VCDS to see error log but will do soon, in the meantime I'd love to see if anybody has wrapped this up?
I'm starting to think Microsoft should make cars with the Ctrl/Alt/Del function. 🤔
Thanks guys
Dan

You mean just close all windows, switch off, restart and then open the windows again?? Might work :bigblink: :beerchug: :bigblink:

Yeah honestly, 55k worth of car & silly things like this make me think why did I bother? I've always been a BMW man but bought GTR & loved all of it except the practicality... only because I have two kids I thought buy the "Ultimate Family Car" & kill two birds with one stone. Starting to think I threw too many stones at one bird instead.

Hi Dan,

Just after I bought my car, I had this error. My local indy told me they had seen this when the car battery was starting to fail. I was planning to replace the battery anyhow (as it was 5 years old). Since changing the battery I have not had this error again. Could be coincidence I suppose 🤔. IF your battery is 5years or older then might be worth replacing...

Cheers,
Lig.

Good point LIg. A low battery causes all sort of random errors. I had a suspension fault come up on mine; I did a scan and it said the front left level sensor (or right, can't remember which) was faulty. After stripping half the car away and realising DRC cars only have 2 sensors in diagonal corners (air suspension cars have them on all 4 axles) I tried charging the battery. It didn't go straight away but after about a week of trickle charging overnight it went and I never got the fault again. I also had 5 or 6 random faults occasionally pop up all in one go and this stopped after I started to regularly charge my battery. My car was less than a year old at the time but I had a big amplifier / subwoofer which obviously put more strain on the battery than normal.
Before replacing the battery I'd get a good battery conditioner on it for a few weeks and see how that works out.

Gents, this is likely low battery voltage fault.
It can happen with car sitting for sometime having not been driven ... eg several days, although the OEM battery on RS6 fitted is larger than normal (can’t recollect the Amp/Hr rating now).
However If you have additional non OEM electric items fitted eg dash cams fitted front & or rear these can cause a drain on the battery if “motion monitoring” 24/7 ...sufficient enough to create this fault. So yes, if you drive for approx 10-15 mins... stop/shutdown car & restart, the error msg will self clear.
Ps on some dash-cams you can set the dash cam software to shut down the cams to save draining the car battery down to different voltage levels... eg 11.2v, 11.4v, etc.
Otherwise, as Mike says get your battery load tested... ie amp load. Note: voltage test won’t indicate battery condition. Any decent car battery should give you at least 5years life... in our “normal ambient temps”....

When ever you get an engine related “fault” eg....the management light for example flashing....the stop start error comes up as a default.

My 2013 car used to do it.

Was told the car always flags this fault up for numerous issues.

You haven’t had the cylinder 5 fault have you after a map? This also kicks up the stop start fault

Mine was a stage 2 Litchfield map...but that’s another story!

Also

I’d suggest it’s your map causing it.

Hi guys

I recently just purchased a PE took it on the day I got it. Floored it and engine management light came on flashing then went out.

Next day dame again this time the engine meant light became solid and stayed on.

Out in to Audi and they had it for a week.

Put it down to an engine update. Got it done and back and not hand any issues yet might be worth asking about the software update

You can always clear codes, if they not coming back or check engine light not pops out you are fine) if something real would be then you couldn’t easily clear codes and check engine light would appear again as soon as you start a car
