About to take the plunge!!

Post by gikseiman » Tue Sep 17, 2019 10:00 pm

Hey all, need some advice pls. About to take the plunge on a 15 plate FL and deliberating over two cars. Pretty same mileage but slightly different options.

Which one would you go for? I have a preference but want to consider all before doing the deed:

Option 1
- Dynamic pack plus which includes ceramic brakes..which I've never owned
- Ambient lighting pack
- Parking pack
- HUD
- Crystal effect paint

Option 2
- Dynamic pack
- Assistance pack
- Parking pack + park assist
- metallic paint

Any comments and advice on ceramic brakes and assistance pack welcome!

Many thanks!

Hi Gikseiman,

From the info above, then for me it would be Option 1 hands down.

You say the mileage is similar, is the price? As the Dynamic + was a £11.5K option. I don't have it but would have liked it..

Also is the colour the same (both black), have either got the gloss black styling pack as I do think this looks good on these cars.. ?

IF similar price and you like both the colours, then deffo Option 1.

The assistance pack wasn't on my list as I think it only really useful if you are going to do big miles and motorway driving....

Cheers,
Lig.

OPtion 1 all day. The ceramics are great (and will save you money in the long run), but are noisy! Unless you drive them hard (all the time) they tend to build up a layer of dust on the front disks and you sound like an old truck when stopping at lights etc!

Also on ceramic you need to learn to drive with them in the wet - on a motorway run they build up a layer of water on the cold disks and stopping becomes an "experience" as they first do nothing, then clear (and because you now have your foot pinned to the floor) then pitch you through the windscreen!! There are posts on here about this!

Enjoy, whichever you go for :jump:

Dave

As mentioned, I had my mates R8 our for a run with ceramics on it. Got a shock when pressing the brake pedal in the wet. Initially nothing then all of a sudden was like doing an emergency stop. He just looked at me and laughed saying “takes a bit of getting used to those ceramic brakes eh!!” Saw the funny side afterward but had visions of putting his R8 through the middle of the roundabout coming off the dual carriageway. Haha.

All depends what you are looking for, ceramics will save you cash in the long run but in my opinion they are not needed for every day driving. If you are planning on fast road use or track days go for the ceramics.

Thanks all!

I did additional digging and it looks the "dynamic pack plus" wasn't actually a plus. Spotted the disc brakes weren't ceramic from the pics after some comments about using them in the wet.

So Option 1 is just regular dynamic pack.

Price is very similar. Option 2 is with manufacturer as an approved used.

However it looks like the approved used has had powder coated alloy refurb! If I get VIN number, does the audi.de website still give original Audi options that was on the vehicle to check against this?

Also, what's you opinion on purchasing from trade Vs manufacturer with there checks? I spoke to both and sounds like Audi Extended warranty is used and not original manufacturers fully comprehensive warranty?? I.e. frictional items are not covered like alloys and brake discs.

Btw, anyone know any RS specialists in Manchester? Might get another view on the trade vehicle

Thanks

Re - powder coated alloy refurb, I wouldn’t let anything like that put you off.

Hi Gikseiman,

So with that change, and as they are similar price and you like both colours\exterior then I think it depends on how much you are going to use the car and how much parallel parking you will be doing  .

For me I would still go for Option 1 as I would prefer HUD BUT not much in it and would go on exterior looks (wheel colour \ black pack) also interior carbon looks better than gloss black IMHO ....

The fact that the alloys have been refinished isn't a show stopper, I reckon most would have been done at this age.... Do they both have 21s?

IF both have Audi approved extended warranty then really no need to go with dealer providing you get a good feel from the trade seller... but I suppose you do get a bit more piece of mind with the main stealer.... SO if the one you are swaying toward is with the main dealer then that's the one to buy!

Keep us posted.
