Hi, been looking to get into an RS6, currently have a Merc E63S.

Seen a couple, but mapped. Would you buy a mapped car?

Too risky?

I’ve always bought standard and modded myself.

Appreciate thoughts

It all depends who’s mapped it. Is it just a stage one remap or higher stage with supporting mods?

I have personally bought a range of mapped cars before but always ensured they have been mapped by a reputable tuner.

In my opinion best to buy used stock car at Audi dealer, then you are safe

As Joe said, if reputably tuned by someone like APR / MRC and they can show regular maintenance thereon it saves you modifying it. Wouldn't pay anymore for it being modified.

Personally I wouldn't buy a mapped C7 or want to map my C7.

I always push myself to financial limit when buying cars (and like to get a dealer warranty for piece of mind) and am just too wary of thing going wrong with mapped cars. I think if I had cash to spare then I wouldn't rule one out (but then I would most likely get a newer non mapped car )

I did test drive a mapped C7 and yes it was noticeably faster, much less lag, but even so I personally don't get why you would want/need any more power/speed in one of these cars, they are scary enough as they are.... IMO... also the dealer was unsure of how the warranty would work as it had been mapped, which put me off it.

But back to your question.... IF I was into tuning, then I would want to enjoy the experience of tuning it 'myself', so would buy standard, and map, mod myself.

My ten penners on re mapped cars:-

I Bought the right stock car through Audi

Put milly exhaust and K&N filter on

Went APR Stage 1

Went APR Stage 2 with bells and whistles

Car has been overly looked after and overly maintained throughout, it’s used daily, has been on many spirited drives through A&B roads and has been faultless.

We`ve carried out spark plug and engine oil changes every 5k and has just completed full Diff fluid, Rear Final Drive & ATF and gear Box Service at ZF Approved trans specialist.

Add that to every other Audi Service plan item and additional work item being carried out ahead of time and more frequently than the service book times.

I think you’ll find that sometimes the “tinkered with / mapped / modded” cars are sometimes a better bet than a stock car in terms of upkeep and maintenance

It begs the question do you want to buy stock and shell out all the cash yourself or have someone else do it for you and buy a used modded unit ? Personally I think it’s 50/50 as there’s always the right car out there you just need to find it.

One thing I would like to add is don’t let overly generous Dyno sheets and claims of big power on modded units get you excited as I know of at least 2 cars in recent weeks with claims of big power in terms of RS6/7 making know where near there claimed figs..

I wouldn't touch one. Too many unknowns. Better to buy a standard one and map yourself with your chosen tuner if that is the way you want to go.

Not necessarily so, infrequently used RS’s, wragged to within an inch of their lives when they are used invariably expire quicker.

Regularly used RS’s, especially daily drivers, warmed and cooled properly have lots of life in them, even at Stage 1 or 2
