My ten penners on re mapped cars:-

I Bought the right stock car through Audi

Put milly exhaust and K&N filter on

Went APR Stage 1

Went APR Stage 2 with bells and whistles

Car has been overly looked after and overly maintained throughout, it’s used daily, has been on many spirited drives through A&B roads and has been faultless.

We`ve carried out spark plug and engine oil changes every 5k and has just completed full Diff fluid, Rear Final Drive & ATF and gear Box Service at ZF Approved trans specialist.

Add that to every other Audi Service plan item and additional work item being carried out ahead of time and more frequently than the service book times.

I think you’ll find that sometimes the “tinkered with / mapped / modded” cars are sometimes a better bet than a stock car in terms of upkeep and maintenance Image

It begs the question do you want to buy stock and shell out all the cash yourself or have someone else do it for you and buy a used modded unit ? Personally I think it’s 50/50 as there’s always the right car out there you just need to find it.Image

One thing I would like to add is don’t let overly generous Dyno sheets and claims of big power on modded units get you excited as I know of at least 2 cars in recent weeks with claims of big power in terms of RS6/7 making know where near there claimed figs..Image

Take care from a modded/tinkered with/mapped RS6 owner Image

Back on topic

I was briefly considering a C7 about 18 months ago. Rightly or wrongly, the reports of some C7 engines going bang meant I was only considering ones with an Audi warranty; I.e. unmapped.

A good number of these cars are coming out of warranty now, extended warranty really isn’t worth the paper it is written 9n from personal experience. like said above more tuned / mapped cars are fastidiously kept than those not / put on Audi standard service plans by customers

How many have went bang that are stock ??

How many have went bang that are mapped ?

Stock - possibly only serviced on time and only when they get a reminder call from Audi to say your due work/service

Mapped - possibly serviced more regularly with more frequent service and wear and tear parts changed in lesser increments

My cars warranty runs out in sept this year, in a year I’ve had zero visits to have any issues sorted via warranty but have overly maintained my mapped car in terms of mechanical maintenance.

Why do you say an Audi extended warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s written on?

Too many variables in my view.

Anecdotal evidence is meaningless.

I suspect there's quite a higher ratio of people on this forum that have tuned cars than is the norm, no doubt skewing results? impressions?

I suspect that how a car is driven has a much higher chance of causing failures or failures over time (no proof though) and how a car is looked after driven wise (ie warmed up before thrashed, cooled down before switching off, not held on brakes when really hot etc)

At the end of the day, it's personal risk assessment/luck in my view.

Went for unmapped in the end. Pick it up Tuesday. Agree, it’s more luck I guess. Coming from chocolate pistons on Subaru’s I’ve been weary. Like to choose my own modding route I guess, did the same with my M3, will do the same with RS.

Gonna enjoy it first standard

Good luck with the car Lee, I don't do the mapping thing anymore and find my PE is quick enough for my needs, but I respect the views of others on here and echo the comments about warranty, every quality car I have owned that needed warranty work involved some sort of haggle with the manufacturer. I don't keep cars for more than 3 years nowadays as a result.

Yeah, will keep it standard for now. Get used to the power delivery and grip!!!

I know it’s a new car to me but this is the first one were I’ve actually genuinely thought “this is fast enough”.

We shall see.

Cheers
