Alloy wheel colour?
Picked up my RS6 last week and gave it a quick wash the other day. Noticed a couple of bits on the alloys where the lacquer has started to break down and peel. Only small imperfections but I know from previous experience that when the lacquer starts to go on diamond cut wheels it becomes more and more noticeable over time.
My question is do I get them diamond cut again and keep them silver or just powder coat them black? (I think one wheel has already had a diamond cut refurb before) I’m planning on a set of aftermarket alloys at the start of next year, probably Vossen VFS-1 or Ispiri FFR-1 and possibly black out the car trims.
I have the car booked in for a ceramic coating in a few weeks time and could get the wheels done while it’s in there as they will be getting ceramic coated too.

Re: Alloy wheel colour?
Hi Joe,
I personally don't like black wheels on black cars, so my vote would be to just get them re-done the same as they are.
I think that the 21s in the titanium finish look the best especially as your car has the silver trim (wingmirrors, grill surround, roof bars and front intake trim), the Ti wheels are the best choice for your car and trim...
IMHO....
Also, just to add... a condition on the sale of my car was to have it ceramic coated and although I was a bit dubious (a way of the dealer making lots of extra £££) it is absolutely superb! I don't know how long it will last, but it comes with a 5 yr guarantee. So will see how it holds up AND how they will uphold the guarantee should it start to wear off???!!!
Cheers,
Lig.

Re: Alloy wheel colour?
Cheers for the reply Lig.
I know what you mean. The only issue I have with the aluminium trim is that the previous owner has managed to stain the trim in places (milky white spots) probably with traffic film remover. I am tempted to get it wrapped black.
Yeah my mate owns a detailing place so it’s going in for a single stage machine polish and Opticoat ceramic coating with a 5 year guarantee. He did my last car and it’s well worth the money. Much easier cleaning and protects the paintwork underneath.

Re: Alloy wheel colour?
I have the titanium grille, front splitter, side flaps, mirrors and rear diffuser if you wanted to change them to titanium.
I also have a black grill with carbon quattro grill if you were looking to black out.

Mike, do you have any pictures of the titanium parts? I’m in 2 minds either to black her out or keep her with the 2 tone look

Yes, take a look at my build thread:Joegib1983 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 8:24 pmMike, do you have any pictures of the titanium parts? I’m in 2 minds either to black her out or keep her with the 2 tone look

It came with the titanium trim from factory so the first pictures you see of it are with the trim I still have.
Re: Alloy wheel colour?
I had an RS4 (B8) that was black on black on black on black (body / wheels / interior / black optic pack). I held back on getting the rings and decals in black too.
Whilst I enjoyed the ‘stealth’ / prototype look initially I found the enjoyment didn’t last - the ‘understated’ look was overstated.
IMHO black diamond cut wheels are the best finish on a black car - if you have Alu trim as well then wheels painted in a matching Alu colour should look good too.
Anyway all IMHO!

Re: Alloy wheel colour?
I know what you mean Sasha. The understated look is nice and the aluminium trim breaks it up nicely. I just need to see what I can do with the slight oxidation on the trim. If I can sort that I’ll probably just get the wheels refurbed and keep them the same colour for the time being. Loving the car so far. I’ve had quite a few performance cars over the years but the RS6 just has so much low down torque which makes it so nice to drive.sasha320 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 6:35 amI had an RS4 (B8) that was black on black on black on black (body / wheels / interior / black optic pack). Re: Alloy wheel colour?
I'm having the exact same debate, albeit on a Ford Kuga as opposed to an RS6!
The consensus on Detailing World is that diamond cut alloys are not really fit for purpose and whatever you do to the wheels, you WILL get white worm on them at some point in the future.
Lots of recommendations therfore, for strip and powdercoat rather than redoing the diamond cut finish.
Each to their own I guess, but I will going down the strip and powdercoat when the time comes.

Re: Alloy wheel colour?
Is there much difference between the alloy trim you have already and the titanium trim?? I didn't even know they did the two. I thought both were matt aluminium? But maybe the Ti was an option on the PE car??
Agree with Sasha that the black diamond cut would also look good (with the silver diamond cut bit) if you fancy a change. Like these..
But I still think on your car the Ti finish that are on already suit your car/trim the best...

Re: Alloy wheel colour?
Yes, Titanium trim was an exclusive PE colour. It doesn't look too different to the matt alu in those photos but in the flesh it looks darker.Lig wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 11:55 amIs there much difference between the alloy trim you have already and the titanium trim??
