45000 miles in 18 months
Bought my 65 plate 18 months ago on 30000 miles and just ticked over 75000. Keen to keep it till we are all forced to drive golf carts. Looking for advice about keeping it for the next few years and preventative maintenance:
- I'm worried about the oil filter/turbo issue. Preventative maintenance seems prohibitive in terms of labour cost to replace the defective part but perhaps worth a big bill to save a huge bill? Short of changing the oil every 10k and keeping fingers crossed, any other suggestions?
- Gearbox oil- will change soon. Keen to know how others approach this.
- Remap - thoughts drift to releasing the full potential of the car but it must have an effect on longevity and wear of parts?
Any other tips as likely to take the car over 200k in coming years?

Oil change is every 9k miles unless you are on long life service.
Re: 45000 miles in 18 months
I change my oil every 5-8k miles depending on how long it takes to go from max to oil top up. Each time I flush the engine with BG engine flush and then let the oil out and change it.
Gearbox service, ZF do a sump and gasket kit which comes with step by step instructions, going to do mine every 40k miles now. changing plugs every 30k miles since on stage 1
Quattro and ATF fluid change every 30k miles too, supposed to be 40k but with 1100Nm of torque now, going to change oil more frequently.
May yet do the PCV and screen replacement, at the same time have my injectors tested. Thinking of keeping mine as well until it doesn’t run anymore, little out there to replace it with except so,etching with 2 seats and I still have kids to taxi around

Re: 45000 miles in 18 months
Mine does use a significant amount of oil - about a litre every 2-3,000 miles which I am told is within expected limits by Audi.....
GSC - Really helpful info thanks. So gearbox/ATF/Quattro fluid changes roughly annually at the mileage I'm doing makes sense. Few questions:
- Engine oil change every 2-3 months seems a little over the top- the car doesn't have a hard life? Can I extend that as doing high miles?
- Do the turbos need to come out to replace the PCV and screens? I was a bit surprised at the reported labour costs for turbo replacement as they are right on top of the engine and don't look difficult to access (though I'm no mechanic).

45k in 18 months.. Good effort sir
Re: 45000 miles in 18 months
If car stock 15.000km oil change more than enough
Re: 45000 miles in 18 months
Mine used to use next to no oil for the first 6000 miles or 6 months after a service, then increase usage as the oil got older. Typically I'd top it up with a litre of oil 2 or 3 times between annual services.galaxie500 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:18 pmMine does use a significant amount of oil - about a litre every 2-3,000 miles which I am told is within expected limits by Audi.....
With that amount of mileage I'd leave it on longlife service and let the car tell you when it needs an oil change. I imagine if it's not being ragged daily then it will probably go the whole 18,000 miles before saying it needs a change.galaxie500 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:18 pm

Re: 45000 miles in 18 months
MikeFish - I don't really understand the digital service schedule. When I bought the car at 2 years old its service record showed an oil change and service at 15k and 30k. When I said I would be doing high miles they switched me to the "longlife schedule" which extended the service interval to 18k miles but demands an interim oil change every 9k miles. So the car has now had 3 interim oil changes and 2 oil change/services in my time with it. I have no problems with the increased frequency of oil change other than the £350 Audi want to charge for it. I had to go 2000 miles past the oil change interval one time as the local dealer were "too busy" and they advised me any future warranty claim may be rejected for going 11k without an oil change, even though the oil change interval was 15k for the first 2 years of its life - madness.
Anyway, warranty is up in a few months so won't be an issue any longer. Definitely going with independent servicing at DH Automotive in Falkirk from now on though a potential risk is that they are now agents for MRC in Scotland and a remap may prove difficult to resist......
