I was referring to the oil feed design. 10000% bad design, don't care who says anything different. You just need to look at all the failures popping up.Tadass910 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 11:42 amHigh mile means how much miles?Jaz9443 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 4:35 pmHi All,
I’ve recently experienced the same issue on my C7 RS6. Oil strainer blocked and considerable damage to the turbo housing. Currently being refurbished. Due to come back to my mechanic next week so hopefully will have her back on the road. Although I have high miles it’s still 2015 and disappointing such an issue could occur!
Every tuner sais that this engine is a masterpiece that Audi done, and you say otherwise, maybe there are minor issues to some engines, but this 4.00 tfsi engine most reliable in Audi history. Of course you need to take care about your engine change oil every 15.000 km at least and do all services.Paulm wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 10:58 amSorry to hear. pretty poor design. Must be thousands of these engine just waiting to fail given they are used in various models all over the world. Not good.
I miss my V8TT but not the pain it was causing. Turobs, injectors, valve springs and sticking oil scraper ring all issues that seem to be getting more common. None of which are cheap to fix.
If anyone wants a link to very cheap turbos (and seemed very very good quality) give me a shout

Mine has been tuned since December of last year and have done engine oil service and spark plugs amongst other things every circa 5k miles..

Re: 4.0TFSI Turbo failure
Oil changes, tuning, service history, makes no difference at all!
Theres a reason why there is a revised oil screen design released by Audi. The previous design is prone to blocking and causing turbo failure
Just read up on all the reported failures!
Re: 4.0TFSI Turbo failure
So it should be changed under warranty?

Re: 4.0TFSI Turbo failure
Lets not over dramatise it please .
You make it sound the latest revision screen is the ONLY way to go, well guess what...without proper service even that one will clother up and make the turbo's fail.
It all depends how you drive the car, how you let it cool down, what oil you use, how frequently you replace oil and if you use oil cleaners imho.
Don't get me wrong, clearly there is an issue and it is especially sad the location of the screen is hard to get by (but what is on theseblocks!!)
Re: 4.0TFSI Turbo failure
So my question would be: shall I ask Audi dealer to change it just to be sure my turbos will last longer? My car is 2014 April and I have 111.000 km ondasquade wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 5:20 pmLets not over dramatise it please .

P.s is there any official bulletin by Audi that it’s shows that oil screen needs to be changed?

When was the later superceded oil strainer introduced in production?

Hello all,
A bit late in the game but some justice in the US for our predicament: the NHTSA have issued a recall for this issue just last month (2022 March) - at least some proactive recourse for others.

Came across this over Google and signed up to add that Audi UK has issued a recall to replace the oil strainers. 2016 FL. Work completed and just awaiting recalibration of cameras/parking sensors for the car to be returned. There is no warranty on the car due to age.
Re: 4.0TFSI Turbo failure
How long it took everything to do? Audi sais 3 working days.adamza wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 9:03 pmCame across this over Google and signed up to add that Audi UK has issued a recall to replace the oil strainers. 2016 FL. Re: 4.0TFSI Turbo failure
its late 2022 and this is still an issue. I had an S car that had this fault. Audi didnt even tell me, i found it myself by researching the car. i waited 7 months for audi to book me in. i also noticed a cylinder misfire but i didnt say anything, i wonder if they will notice anything. audi said it will take 3 full days to do this job, and their places get 1-2 cars a week....
