Following this post guys just a little info, both my turbos failed with 16k miles on the clock and MRC stage 2. Strainers blocked. I've bought the bypass kit from JHM and am having 2 new turbos fitted at the moment.
2 of my friends locally have also had the same issue of blocked strainer and failed turbos
Are they being replaced free under Audi warranty?

No the car has been remapped so audi don't cover it, soon as they plug it in TD 1 code comes up they know the ECU has been changed. Chance you take im affraid

@Bigbaz1974: since the car only has 16k miles on it i assume it is a pretty late build. Do you happen to know what revision oil screen is/was in your car? Just for interest, i know the previous before last revision failed aswell on my friends car (well the screen actually and luckly slipt/bursted letting oil pass, but he found out while swapping upgrade turbo's). But would be nice to know what revision was in your car....
Hope you don't run into issues with the JHM relocation kit (was topic on audizine regarding misaligned fittings and couldn't install...unless they bended them but didn't want to risk that).
You upgraded turbo's? Cooling is important on these car :( !

Sorry to hear. pretty poor design. Must be thousands of these engine just waiting to fail given they are used in various models all over the world. Not good.

I miss my V8TT but not the pain it was causing. Turobs, injectors, valve springs and sticking oil scraper ring all issues that seem to be getting more common. None of which are cheap to fix.

If anyone wants a link to very cheap turbos (and seemed very very good quality) give me a shout

With the fact the oil screens were blocked (?), it may be worthwhile chasing audi?

Surely you have a case to raise? Worth a try?

Car only had 7k miles on it at 18 months old. I don't drive it a lot. Hence low miles. Have already got new turbos ready to go on cant be bothered with audi had so much problems with them in the past. And i know what the answer would be as the car has been mapped

Actually low milage on an 'old' car is not so good as it shows the car hasn't been driven often and can build up sludge and that.....blocks oil screens :(.
Even if you running low milages, i would definatly recommand lower milage oil services.
Sucks big time and shouldn't be happening to such high tech complex car but guess nature of the beast. I bet in 10-20 years we will laugh once we are forced to drive all electric cars and look back, remember those old complex vurnable mechanic combustion cars? :p

Hi All,

I’ve recently experienced the same issue on my C7 RS6. Oil strainer blocked and considerable damage to the turbo housing. Currently being refurbished. Due to come back to my mechanic next week so hopefully will have her back on the road. Although I have high miles it’s still 2015 and disappointing such an issue could occur!

Every tuner sais that this engine is a masterpiece that Audi done, and you say otherwise, maybe there are minor issues to some engines, but this 4.00 tfsi engine most reliable in Audi history. Of course you need to take care about your engine change oil every 15.000 km at least and do all services.

I’d be interested to see the engine oil changes on these cars out of curiosity more than anything

Mine has been tuned since December of last year and have done engine oil service and spark plugs amongst other things every circa 5k miles..

For tuned car maybe every 5k miles is necessary to do oil change, but for stock car every 15.000km more than enough
