Long term running costs and thoughts

Post by ldwldw » Sun Jun 23, 2019 2:48 pm

Hi all,

New here, have owned 3 x V8 S4's in the past but I've been very close to pulling the trigger on an RS6 Performance from a dealer.

Really worried that the running costs will be a shock to the system that I might regret.

Any views in terms of what you have spent in your last 12 months of ownership?

Thank you
LDW

I've only had mine about 9 months so haven't had any expense yet!

Servicing, £350 for an Oil Change and £775 for a major (which is as well as oil change, plugs and air filter) at the main dealer. Fuel economy, low 20's if you're lucky. Tyres around £1.2k for a set.

If tpms sensors goes off, one with labor at audi 500 eur, if lambda sensor goes off one with labor at Audi will cost 400 eur, and we have 4 lambda sensors if I am not mistaken, so you can calculate.

Thanks guys, so first year just plenty of trips to fill up :) Anyone took out extended Audi warranty or 3rd party once the Audi one expires in one year?

Servicing is about the same as the b6 S4 for oil / plugs servicing, tyres are around 1k for a set, Quattro and ATF fluid change plus cost of brakes will be where you see the big differences. Fuel costs better now than in the n/a v8’s but loads more power and tuning potential

On my second 6 - first one was non PE - bought at 6kmiles and sold 2yrs later with 39kmiles
Costs on that car over and above the service
1 set of front discs and pads - £1200 - replaced at 23kmiles
2 sets of tyres from Costco at around £230 per corner - if you buy when they have offers on, you can get £100 voucher back too
Fuel - circa £80/week - 300miles/week
Warranty work - exhaust sensor?? went and DRC failed at around 30k miles - circa £1500 corner to fix

2nd 6 PE
Bought with 100miles on clock
Currently at 21kmiles
Costs to date - One service and inspection circa £800 at 14kmiles - my service intervals are set at 20kmiles
1 set of Michelin tyres at 13k miles £230 corner
No other costs to date

I guess biggest expense will be fuel, other threads on that about economy - real world I'm getting around 350miles to a tank and it's around £82 to fill it with Momentum - which is the only fuel I run it on as Doug @ MRC said not to put anything other than Vpower/Nitro or Momentum into the car

Best car I have ever owned and I've been through a fair few - only thing that will tempt me away is a new shape G63....

Biggest expense would, by far, be depreciation.

Heard various reports in Tescos momentum fuel, isn’t it simply 95 Ron laced with something to raise it to 99?

good point, though you don't buy these cars with your head, you buy them with your heart otherwise we'd all be driving around in Fiat 500's - if we worried about depreciation, we wouldn't sleep at night :)

God knows on Momentum, I think historically there was a thread to death on it. I just took the advice of MRC - whether there's a difference between that and 95, no clue as I've never filled it up with anything else

I paid £61k for my Sepang Non PE 6 and sold it 2yrs later £50k -
£11k drop in 33k miles and 24months

the PE listed at £93k
Pre Reg - paid £76.5k for it
think it's worth low 60s at the mo - though not planning on getting rid for another 12months

Agree - Life too short as it is - who wants to be the richest man in the graveyard? Not me - I also have a daughter who spends my money faster than I earn it, convinced my money has wings, so I don't think I'll ever be rich!!!
