Dash stopped working. So did lots of other stuff..!

Post by daddyone » Fri May 17, 2019 9:22 pm

So I'm two days into the new car, Opened up the dash, removed the piano black inserts, air vents and got ready to wire in my dashcam, plug in the bits and pieces for some in car tech. threaded everything through, put it all back together, the only connections I removed were the air vent ones (three of them in total) and the main dash MOST and CAN connectors, both of which are back in, properly inserted and clipped in.

Started the engine, didn't notice at first but the dash wasn't lit up, not speedo and no rev counter.

Drove along a while, noticed no indicator clicking noise but wing mirror lights are flashing. No radio but the MMI screen is working, no phone audio on the car kit and a shitload of faults coming up when I plug VCDS in:

Now I won't post the rest, but you get the idea - pretty much every module in the car is unreachable and this tells me maybe the CAN gateway itself has gone down. Anyone know about these codes? Is there anything I could possibly have dislodged or unplugged which would cause this? I've done exactly the same in my old car with no issues, once to install and once to remove.

Taken the battery off, cleared all fault codes with VCDS and still no dice. I'm a little bit confused....

Is every module showing unreachable? Check the MOST fibre is fully inserted into its own plug and not just what its plugged into. Maybe remove anything you have added in case its causing an issue and check for a blown fuse which is easily done.

Blown fuse, 5A on the passenger side. I didn't know there are actually three fuse boxes; Driver's dash side panel, passenger's dash side panel and another nestled underneath the RHS cubby hole in the boot where the cigarette lighter is. Anyway sorted now!
