Exhaust - change out the mid pipe

Post by DaytonaMatt » Fri May 10, 2019 1:46 pm

I have come from an M4 where I put the Remus back boxes in and while it sounded awesome a bit of me always wondered would I have got more bang for my buck by just installing the mid pipe so taking out the secondary cat. That was very much an option for the M4

It doesn’t seem like people do it with RS6’s though and Milagros (who fit my Remus) day they don’t do a mid pipe only option for the RS6

Any one know why?

If your thinking of an exhaust for a C7 RS6, I have a Milltek Non Resonated System (with centre resonated section too if no res too loud) with Genuine Akrapovic exhaust tips available...

I chopped out the factory mid pipe and replaced it with straight pipes. Was happy with this for about 3 years. Then changed to a Milltek.
Any exhaust fabricator will be able to do this mod for you for about £200 - £300.

How did you find the milltek after the mid pipe mod?

I did the same as mike with the mid pipe replacement and as Mike changed to the Milltek. I went for the road plus which gave just the right sound without being too boomy.
Unfortunately the car is now sold and now down sized to an RS3. One day I’ll be back 👍

I was really happy with the res delete for 3 years. It was louder than standard but similar tone. No drone. But after 3 years I fancied a changed. Absolutely loved the tone of the Milltek. It wasn't much louder but had a much rawer sound which I love (I know many prefer the Akra over the Milltek though).
Downside of the Milltek are that the change from 4 cylinder mode back to 8 cylinder mode is more pronounced. However, I sold the car shortly after fitting the Milltek and wished I'd fitted it sooner; I felt like I needed more time with it. Personally, both great options though.

I looked into fabrication options and even bought a spare sports exhaust as they go for chips nowadays (£150-250) - But luckily picked up a Milltek non-res for free! Tone of the Milltek is unreal. I used to have a Striaghtpiped Renntech+Capristo 5.5 AMG and the Audi is a far better sound. Not as mentally loud but the way it gently howls between 1-3k rpm is amazing - I fully recommend getting a Milltek non-res if you're wanting to unlock the sound.
