Im well up for this upgrade.

Do you want to sell your USB2 adapter and SD card (assuming its already got the software on)?

Sorry Dave, FL only, you need one of these USB ports:

Thanks - I feared as much. Presumably the port does something different to the standard MMI lead with a USB port on the end?!

It’s completely different hardware underneath.

Any change in screen resolution? Or is it only when in CarPlay you notice a difference?

Will this invalidate the warranty?

Im sure it would on the MMI unit itself - assuming Audi notice of course!

Just waiting for Amazon to get off their backside and deliver my USB to Ethernet adapter. Note you don’t need the Dlink one specifically, just any adapter based on the AX88772 chip. I’ve order the Amazon basics USB 2.0 one for £8, which uses that chip (note not the USB 3.0 one though).

You say you don’t need the dlink one but I saw him change the firmware for the E100

Sounds a great way to install Carplay. Thanks for the post.

So does the laptop need to have an ethernet connection, via ethernet cable to ethernet/usb adapter into USB port?

Then I take it the laptop must have wifi signal with the SD card in it?

Then the rest is over to him?

Thanks,

Yes the laptop does need ethernet and you need wifi as he uses TeamViewer to take control of your laptop, the longest part is the MMI update, he messages you through telegram with commands and photos telling you what to do, the only thing you have to take into consideration is some of the photos he sends you for button presses are slightly different as he's showing you LHD cars.

This process is curious. You’re handing your car over to an unknown third party to install some software. Is that software genuine?

To me this is a massive cyber risk akin to clicking on a link which merrily installs malware on your PC or Mac.

Would you hand over control of your PC or Mac to an unknown third party?!

Brave.

I used a laptop with a fresh install of Windows 10, today I am going to have a look if there is anything on there that shouldn't be, I watched the whole install and didn't see anything to worry about.

I also spoke to Audi again yesterday before the install and they are still adamant that carplay will not be made available to cars older than 2017.
