RS6 C8
RS6 C8
Does anybody have any definitive information on the new RS6?
I’m particularly interested to know two things
1 - Will there be a 650bhp or more hybrid version?
2 - If not, aside from haptic controls will there be a step change difference in general performance between the C7 and C8?
My point being, if the C8 is another V8 twin turbo with rear wheel steer, a handful of extra bhp and an alternative haptic control environment i.e., evolution not revolution then I might stretch the C7 until the C9 comes out with self driving flying technology.

Re: RS6 C8
No nothing has been confirmed yet. The only guarantee is that the interior will be almost identical to the new A6.
Ages ago someone like the head of RS said something along the lines of the new RS7 will come in a 4 litre turbo approx 600ps and a 700ps hybrid which was similar to the panamera engines.

Re: RS6 C8
If you are thinking about a C9, bear in mind that it will be limited to the prevailing speed limit (with a fiddly-to-use"off" button if you feel daring), have a black box fitted that will report your exact speed and driving behaviour in the immediate run-up to the accident, and that it will almost certainly (very certainly) not have a V8 but will instead have a hybrid drive with a strong emphasis on the electric drive.
C8 FTW

Re: RS6 C8
We are talking about a span of 7+ years until C9.
I am really surprised you would be willing to drive 10+ years old C7 until then.

Re: RS6 C8
It is a fair question.
Over the last decade I have changed my cars every 18 months or so as the appeal of something different or slightly newer comes along.
Generally I have perceived the ‘cost to change’ bearable and enjoyed making the changes as I had sports cars then SUVs and then fast estates. This approach have good variety but has proven to be expensive and certainly no less cost effective than a lease arrangement on equivalent but brand new cars.
Given I need to stick with a family wagon for another decade or so, I honestly don’t think that there is anything comparable out there that is significantly better or different to the C7. Maybe the Panamera Sport Turismo or the Ferrari FF/GTC.
Everything else is not really that different to the C7 or my previous cars. And the next crop of family wagons will have haptic controls but not much else different from what I can gather.
Even the 700Bhp Panamera Turbo S ehybrid drivetrain is too heavy to be much different to the current crop of 500 to 600bhp estates / SUVs.
Plus I fancy running a car for a lot longer than 18 months for once and test that ownership proposition, before getting into a fully leased, probably electric, mostly self driving car next time.

Re: RS6 C8
What could be bad if you want drive a car for 10 years
Re: RS6 C8
I think that’s the point, on the downside there is maintenance to consider, foregoing the latest performance and gizmos and foregoing the kudos of the latest car.
On the upside, running the older car will incur much less depreciation and I think there is some kudos in running a well respected older car.
For any eco warriors out there, the eco offset of building a brand new car I believe is 50k to 60k miles. Therefore not supporting the demand for the production of an extra car also saves the planet (irrespective of how fuel efficient the newer model is).
So, I’ll take the lower depreciation, the kudos of running an older car, I think i can live without the pose value of having a newer car and I’m saving the planet as well!
I think I am not missing any step change gizmos or performance in the C8 and I’ll take my chances with the maintenance.
The only caveat I’d make is that all this assumes my world stays the same; if I win a modest amount on the lottery or have some other windfall / exceptional year at work etc. - then I’m sure I’ll buy a Mercedes GL63 for family duties and a sporty 2 seater for me!

Re: RS6 C8
Rs6 suits very well for a family car) then you need only buying R8 for a weekend driving) that’s my opinion

In all honesty I would be tempted to stick with the RS6.

Re: RS6 C8
In all honesty it will take something very special to get me out of my RS6 Performance.
I don't need to go faster, I really like the noise, I think the interior is great and has aged well (actually prefer it to the new two black slabs versions).
I usually change my main car every 18 months but have had this for 2.5 years and no plans to change (maybe before the 5 year warranty runs out).
Awesome vehicle, but I do have something with just as much power and rear wheel drive for fun on Sunday morning's, corners are not the RS6's party trick...

Re: RS6 C8
I'm dropping from an average 25k miles per year to probably 6-8k miles next year and from City to rural living and I have spent months considering whether the RS6 makes sense in my new world (lots a quality rural, twisty roads), but as many of you are saying what's an alternative? I have considered a good hot hatch, new breed or the best of years gone by, but it's not big enough to do all the practical stuff. I've considered performance saloons, smaller on the road, more dynamic to drive, but again the practicality (dogs and camping) plus I don't think any of them have the looks of the C7 RS6. Then i've considered a Range Rover or something to just waft about in... tried that before however and missed the performance when in the mood. I've had the multi-car garage in the past and that didn't work either as you often need the other car and it just gets frustrating. I have even considered saving a bundle and dropping to a pocket rocket Fiesta ST or similar for 6k miles per year to chuck about everywhere and maybe have a practical estate for lugging stuff. After several months I still cannot find a single car, new or of the Modern Performance Classic variety that makes more sense than keeping my RS6 PE with its Audi warranty until 2022. Other than tax and mpg, which isn't that bad at my average of 25mpg from brand new, I reckon I can run it as cheaply as most alternatives and still have the performance, practicality, build quality, kudos and looks that matter to me. I totally agree there is something cool about running a well cared for/loved icon car like the RS6 and I don't care much for digital dash etc... C7 has perfect interior for me and my family.
I am a biker too so have something for pure fun. Very hard car to better this C7 RS6.

Re: RS6 C8
I've been given info buy my local sales associate that the C8 will be headed to the States!! First time we'll have had the model since 2003. It's time, and I'm already on the list!!
Re: RS6 C8
I’m seriously thinking about the C8 but only if it ticks all the boxes. I’ve had the C5 C6 and C7 all great cars all very different. Unfortunately everything seems to be governed by emissions and electric <beep> so for me may never happen and I’ll stick with my little go cart RS3
