Lowering
Lowering
Hi all,
Am thinking of lowering the car by 20mm. Just wanted to ask what the cost should be if i supplied the springs. The spread in quotes has been quite large from
£320 including the wheel alignment
£450 but no wheel alignment
£750 with wheel alignment
A couple of quotes above are from some of the firms on the forum. I would have thought the wheel alignment was a must?
As you can see the priced really do vary.
Can you guys let me know what some if you have paid to drop your cars?

Re: Lowering
Depending on what system they use for wheel alignment can make a big difference in the price. Can’t really compare wheel alignment costs without knowing what system them are using?
Could always ask how many hours labour to fit the springs and hourly labour charge and work from that?

Re: Lowering
Cheers toffeebananas,
I hadn't realised that would make such significant difference.

Re: Lowering
Not sure where you are but CLP Automotive quoted me £250 - they’re a amazing specialist and have worked on countless RS’s and lowered at least 5-6 C7s
Re: Lowering
Hi mate,
Would live to use CLP but they're based in Sheffield and i am based in London. I think i'll just the £320.

Re: Lowering
If you are on DRC don’t you have to be careful about lowering and the possible increase in pressure it puts on the system? Or would 20mm drop be within its tolerances?

Re: Lowering
I am not sure about this, having read some of the threads on this forum never read about increased pressure. I am hoping someone with more knowledge than me can answer this one?

Re: Lowering
I think when some garages see the car they just rub their hands together and guess a price. As my local guy said changing springs is day one at mechanic school. I had my RS3 lowered by a specialist charged me £280 labour only. I then had the OEM springs put back in by local guy £150 for the same job. A reasonable 4 wheel alignment roughly £70 to £100.
Re: Lowering
You will need a geometry check, £320 is reasonable. After all this is a straight forward spring swap basic mechanic job, that you could do yourself. The science is in the geometry. Please post some before and after photos. I like pictures, I don't like reading.
Good luck and may the lowered be with you my son

Re: Lowering
As you said 20mm I assume you are going H&R? Orhave you got the adjustable KWs?
I've noticed that from about 2016 onwards the cars didn't sit level so when using H&Rs the car still leans towards the front. KW is the best option for these later cars to get a level stance.
Re: Lowering
Cheers Mike,
I really did consider the KWs for exactly this reason as you can then adjust springs accordingly. The reason i went H&R was that nearly everyone i called recommended them.
Let's see what happens Friday, the will take some before and after pics.

Re: Lowering
Hi to the C7 Forum..
I can add that I recently purchased an RS6 with the adjustable KW's fitted. Its a very hard ride though and doesn't seem right for this 2T vehicle, thinking about having them removed back to stock. If possible try and get a ride in one wth the lowering Shop (including speed humps) before shelling out the $$..

Re: Lowering
I have those springs. Don't bother changing them, they don't affect the ride. The car is hard with standard springs.swordfish wrote: ↑Mon Feb 18, 2019 4:32 pmHi to the C7 Forum..
