How much for a Dealer fitted tow bar?

Hello Everyone,

I'm in the process of negotiating a deal for a 2015 car and would like the Dealer to fit a tow bar. They have agreed to fit it 'at cost' but won't be able to give me a price until tomorrow when the Parts Department open.

Does anyone know how much a Dealer fit item would be please?

Thanks,

Chris

I assume you have air suspension?

Hi Mike,

Yes, air suspension and no carbon pack. It does have the Advanced Key however, so I was thinking the 'foot swipe' boot opening feature might have to be disabled. I think I've read somewhere on this Forum that it's not available with the towbar.

What do you think the Dealer is likely to charge?

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry, I've no idea. I just wanted to make sure you were aware that the dealer won't fit without air suspension (I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer didn't know this until they actually tried to fit it).
But I don't expect it will be cheap.

Go for the detectable towtrust bar. I’ve had two on
The A6 chassis (a6 Tdi and an RS6) the towtrust was the best out of the two I had.

Thanks Everyone,

Do I need to have an Audi tow bar or could I get one from a specialist? Is there any software (for the suspension) that needs to know a tow bar is fitted that only the Dealer will have?

A mixed bag:

- from the dealer I'm getting the car from = £1600 inc VAT fitted. This is their cost price, less some, as part of the deal;

- from Reading Audi = £3500 -£3800;

- Plymouth and Exeter Audi (my local dealers) = failed to respond to my request for a quotation :audibash:

£3800 to fit a towbar. Holy smokes. Is it solid gold? :bigblink:

Don't think I've ever seen an RS6 with a towbar. Is it electrically retractable or manually detachable, or fixed permanent?

Agreed.

Apparently it retracts and rotates into a storage position, having read your thoughts. 😀

Oh, and it's got an Audi badge on it too, which much add a tad.

Aha, if it's a retrofit of the OEM electrically deployable towbar then snap their hand off at the £1600+vat. I vaguely remember asking Land Rover about retrofitting the OEM electric towbar to a used Range Rover and computer said no.

Good old Range Rover / Land Rover reliability, even their computers break down 😩

I thought it was a manual retractable toe bar rather than electric but I could be wrong.

The M5 was power out and in, pretty cool. The Audi one was a bit of a cheap option. Release had enough stored energy to swing into the open locked position. On folding away it just falls like a wet fish and requires manual intervention to store. Pretty poor for the price.

As above not electronic its a kinda 'pull a cord' which Audi call a bowden cable which releases the tow bar. i believe this was a £825 option. As stated in previous post it can only be added if you have air suspension and not the carbon package as you have to remove some of the rear diffuser when in use. £3500 retro fit! wow that's to expensive! Here's some pics of it in my car, fitted from factory, if you do decide to get it fitted.

just to clear this up, I also have advance key and the foot swipe 'does work' with the tow bar option.
