I think there are plenty of people out there who wouldn't do this level of due diligence, or wouldn't know where to start validating specs, getting prices etc. And I don't think being an independent is an excuse for misrepresenting. They are the ones who should be doing the full due diligence on the stock they take in and try to sell on. Quoting £28k of extras just because that's the figure the previous owner told them is an interesting approach. Think I'll take my next car to them and tell them it has £100k of extras. Should get a good price for it that way. :bigblink:
Currently running:
18 plate Lamborghini Huracan Performante (5.2l of V10 naturally aspirated craziness)
67 plate RS6 Performance (fully loaded)
66 plate Range Rover Autobiography (for wafting around)
16 plate Mini Cooper S convertible (lots of fun but rather skittish when thrashed)

Favourite car ever owned:
1971 Citroen DS21 - The Goddess (pure art on wheels)

100%, to put it simply it’s false advertisement.

When the indi bought the car, be it at auction or at trade you can be sure that they knew exactly what the spec was and what they would pay for it.

They have changed the add to remove the B&O, but are still quoting £28k of extras

I guess he means that if the car is SOR then the dealer hasn't actually bought it and thus may be more relaxed about verifying the spec and cost of options etc. It's a fair point. But if it was me (i.e. if I was the dealer) I would not want to advertise a car incorrectly. It would make me look bad/lazy, not the actual owner. The owner is invisible in this process.

I had the exact opposite of this when I bought by car used from Audi. They didn’t seem to know it had 90% of the stuff it does have and it wasn’t priced as a fully loaded car. They didn’t mention it had B&O, night vision, active lane assist, radar cruise, park assist, 360 cameras etc. I got a total result, especially from an Audi main dealer. I’m certainly not complaining, bad advertising very much in my favour.
