Hi All,
thanks to a lovely pot hole (remind me again why we pay road tax) i've got a slash in the front left tyre wall. Both fronts are on 6.5mm so there question is, replace a single tyre or will it need both? Luckily, the alloy looks totally untouched, well visually anyways
cheers for any advice guys

Think you be ok
Could always go nearly new on eBay? Some good tyres with nothing wrong with them...all brands and depths?...one with similar tread wear?

I'd replace both fronts, but keep the good one as a spare if you have another puncture.

As Chris said above, get a part worn tyre off eBay, 6-6.5mm, run it until both fronts are worn then replace with new.
I’ve had loads of part worn tyres off eBay before and never had a problem.

Personally I don't trust second hand p/w tyres. You have no way of knowing their history and whether there is any hidden damage to the carcass. For the one component that sit's between me (+ passengers and car) and an accident I want to know it's in great shape!
If you do go down the part worn route, at least do yourself a favour and put it on the rear.

Same thing happened to me. Very annoying, trouble is you risk winding up the front diff I guess when I spoke to the Audi senior tech . But chances are low .

I’ve read that the tolerances stated by Audi are 3/32” on the rolling radius of all 4 tyres. So basically as long as your tyres are with in roughly 2mm of each other it’s not an issue and as the OP states, his tyres are on 6.5mm. Putting one new tyre on which will have 8mm tread would be fine.Anth wrote:Same thing happened to me. Audi says a maxium of 2mm difference on same axe to prevent problems . Side wall damage is a pain in the arse for sure .Markwes wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 9:52 pmI’ve read that the tolerances stated by Audi are 3/32” on the rolling radius of all 4 tyres.
