New RS6 Owner, 2nd RS in as many months story!

Post by 2Brains » Mon Oct 15, 2018 10:42 pm

Evening Gents,

I have been lurking for a while and wanted to become more active on the forum.

I'm the proud new owner of my second RS6 within the last 2 months and just wanted to share my story for any that are interested!

I set my sights on a post facelift RS6, looking and researching for months before finally finding one which ticked all the boxes available for sale down South.

It was a beautiful, low mileage, one owner Sepang Blue '16 plate with all the options I wanted (and more!! fully loaded).
I agreed a PX, price and put a deposit down. Collecting it a week later. I never test drove the car, I checked it over but took comfort from the fact it still had a manufacturers warranty and the dealer is a well respected performance car specialist.
The drive back up the road was awesome, best car I have ever driven (and the first RS6).

I had the car for about 2 weeks, when I experienced it 'stumble' under heavy acceleration one night, it was quite a violent shudder as it stopped accelerating before taking up on the acceleration again, concerned me at the time but then faded out of my mind.
This stumbling issue happened a second time a week later but also flashed up an emissions light which curiously went away on its own accord about a minute later (not what I was used to).

I decided to stick it in to Audi to get it checked out, I waited at the garage for the initial diagnosis and was relieved to see the service advisor coming back to me around 20 minutes later - only for him to inform me that not only did the car have a Miltek but it was also remapped to over 700bhp. Warranty well and truly voided, Audi wouldn't touch it.

Luckily the original garage I bought it from were totally straight with me and offered me a full refund for the car as it was sold as being standard and under Audi warranty.

They took their car back and I am now the proud owner of a '16 Nardo Grey car with Carbon pack and Audi warranty until 2019. I have to admit the car is as glorious to drive but I am missing the exhaust note of the Miltek (the Audi Sports Exh just isn't the same!) - spoke with Audi and generally they seem to say you can change to no original components but if any faults occur that can be attributed to the modification the warranty will be void. Seriously tempted!!

Separately, I see the original garage now have the original car up for sale but are now stating the modifications but still saying it is warrantied!
Even the garage I bought the second car from had a '17 PE which was stage 2 + exhaust and they were claiming it to have manufacturers warranty! Surely these guys must know??

Personally, I love the Nardo car even more than the Sepang and am absolutely delighted to have the RS6 - better than I could ever have imagined! Can't help but look lovingly at it every time I pass it.

I'm just glad I dealt with a half decent garage and not some back street dealer who could have shut up Shop and left me in the lurch!

Welcome from another newbie.

Might be worth looking at the Akrapovic Exhaust which wouldn't effect your warranty as Audi approved, no idea on costs but believe you can order through Audi.

Unfortunately given EU changes you can no longer buy after market exhausts from the manufacturer.. so the ‘Audi sport’ akrapovic isn’t available to buy (not in the UK at least)

FON.

Rule 1.

Your car will look great once it's painted.

Get it remapped.

Interesting you say that as I’d seen details on this before but Audi said they wouldn’t touch anything that wasn’t OEM - thanks for the info!

Haha only had it a week and heard that before 😂.

Funnily enough I’m not opposed to mapping it, I’d just like to do it on my terms - picking the map and specialist who is doing it!

Congratulations and welcome.

In an email response I had from a very helpful German called Jan Feckler at Audi in Lübeck he says: The ‘Audi sport’ complete Akrapovic titanium exhaust system is available @ 7.950,00 €.

Me: I'd like to spend €8,000 on an exhaust.

Jan Feckler: Of course, you can.

So does the nardo feel slower and sound sober in comparison to the sepang?

Thanks mate.

To be 100% honest; the performance difference was not significantly noticeable to me. Potentially it’s a little less reactive but generally I do not miss the performance of the Sepang. Nardo is just as capable and well & truly ticks the performance box for me.

From the sound perspective I do have the Audi Sports Exhaust fitted to the Nardo but I have to admit it pales in comparison. It does have some nice notes on occasion but loses 90% of the pops & bangs I have become accustomed to. With the Miltek I’m talking gun shots/thunder claps during under load shifting up as well as on the overrun.

Conclusion: Happy with performance (for now). Aftermarket Cat Back is on the cards sooner rather than later to make the car perfect in my eyes.

Cool, makes sense. I bought my car with a milltek and fourie fabrications custom down pipes, highly recommend this combo. Can be a bit loud on cold start up but I've had milltek valve controller installed which sort that out.

Akra are still producing systems in collaboration with VW, Alfa Romeo and Ford as OE with Akra branding. As long as the system is homologated then you legally have no issue with warranty.

All of the systems produced by Akrapovic are now made in line with new EU legislations, so go for an Akra if you like a good sound.

By the way we sell them too :-)

What’s the best deal you could do on the Akra system?
