Engine Oil
What is the general consensus regarding engine oil and more specifically the service interval people adhere to?
My car is still under 1 year old and the other day the ‘top up oil’ message on the display popped up for the first time. I consulted the manual and also the literature which came with the car and it transpires the car is deemed to be on the flexible service schedule and therefore 504 00 (5w 30) oil is required.
I delved further still and if the car is on a fixed schedule, the choice of oil then becomes 502 00 (0w 20). The fixed schedule is described by Audi as required for those drivers which use high revs and hard acceleration frequently.
It strikes me that most RS owners have a heavy right foot and would be more suited to the fixed schedule rather than the flexible schedule.
Have any owners chosen to move to the fixed schedule and therefore use the lower viscosity oil?
Anyone with a tuned vehicle; which oil grading is the tuner suggesting is to be used?
Cheers

Re: Engine Oil
I now use 5w30 and change it at around 15k km(8k miles). Thinking to go with 0w30 at 10k km (6k miles).

Re: Engine Oil
If on longlife servicing you need VW504.00 to go the distances between changes. Having to use that spec does limit your choice of oils, or type of oils. If you move to fixed service VW502.00 is a broad and quite basic spec, this opens up the doors to loads of choice such as the ester performance oils changed every 10,000 miles or once a year. Whatever comes first. 0w-30, 5w-30 or 5w-40 in most cases is ideal.

Re: Engine Oil
I just get the oil changed every 12 months as a matter of course. I use Shell Helix 0W 30 which has been specifically developed for 'performance' VAG group engines. Supply my own oil to Audi and get them to change it and just pay for labour.

Thanks Guy,
So what benefits come with a circa 10K/1 Year oil?
The long life oil that Audi recommend with the flexible service schedule is the 504 00 (5W 30) Castrol Long Life.
The fixed schedule suggests the 502 00 (5w 40) which Audi suggest changing at 9K or every year.
Assuming the same engine, tune (in this case stock) and volume of oil in the system, what would be the benefit of the fixed service oil change be?
Would the fixed shorter life product offer a performance benefit over the LL product?
I also note different viscosity oil that Audi define for the two service schedules…..
Many thanks.

And Audi RS6 C7 502 00 (I have them bought and use this oil always)

Re: Engine Oil
Can I ask which dealer this is please? As all my local ones are point blank refusing. My last service was done locally I supplied my own oil filters etc now they state they can’t do it anymore...innercry666 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 8:14 amI just get the oil changed every 12 months as a matter of course. Re: Engine Oil
Also quantum oil from tps is more than good enough, Iv seen delivery notes and paperwork with big 200l barrels with FUCHS on there at tps centres. It is quality oil and far cheaper than others.
Re: Engine Oil
Audi use the same oil redardless of the service ie 504.
And on the RS6 the fixed service is 9k miles or 1 year. Variable is up to 18k or 2 years depending on how you drive. Someone once told me the car works it out based on how quick it heats and cools.
And I find I need to top the oil up more often the older it gets ie first 6 months after service no oil required then the time between top ups gradually decreases until you change it all again.
I service every 9k miles / 1 year as I don't like leaving the same oil in a high performance engine for 2 years / 18k.

Re: Engine Oil
Nottingham Audi. I do have a pretty good relationship with them. I was expecting push back this last time but they were ok. Even fitted aftermarket airfilter for me! However I did have spark plugs and a few other bits supplied and fitted by them so they did get some GP out of it on parts.RS4LAD wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 4:18 pmCan I ask which dealer this is please? Tbh it’s pureley for the stamp and value, however I don’t think it really makes a difference against the MRC stamp anymore. I trust them a lot more than stealers and I hope whoever buys my car next is a genuine enthusiast who appreciates that.innercry666 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 8:44 pmNottingham Audi. Re: Engine Oil
Oil should be changed every 15k km, if car tuned more oftenFinlandRS6C7 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 04, 2018 2:06 pmRedline 5W40 best oil you can buy.
