New Air Filter

I was thinking about getting an aftermarket air filter. Can anyone recommend one which is better than OEM?

Quick Google search brought up the usual suspects; K&N, Pipercross etc etc...

EDIT - came across a Revo filter which comes with hoses etc.

I have recently fitted the K&N filter. Used them in a number of cars and always had good results over the OEM filter. Main thing was the throttle response being slightly sharper at lower revs. It was about £68 direct from K&N.

I had an AWE tuning one which looked great and felt a bit better than standard. Then I swapped it for an Eventuri one which looked better and felt even better than the AWE one.

@mikefish: do you happened to log before and after like...iat before throttle body, mass air volume, pressure, etc? Several data showed almost no gain compaired to 'simple and cheapest' k&n filter replacement. Eventuri claimed the biggest gain, but still havent seen indepedant data backing that up. Especially for the price, it better give some gain .

Personally, for the moment, i stick with the cheaper k&n filters. Swap and clean frequently!
I did however added a custom air scoop plate from grill into stock air scoop and plan to try get (silly rabbit motorsport) higher flow intake pipes or try make them locally.

I plugged my OBD bluetooth dongle in to log air intake temperature or mass air flow but I couldn't find either on the app. Subsequently I found out our cars don't have a MAF so that explains one of the 2 anyway. So unfortunately, no test results. But it defo feels like it pulls stronger. The biggest difference is after driving for an hour or so when the engine is fully warm and then I find an empty road and floor it; normally would notice the effects of heat soak at this point but it now surprises me and pulls like it is cold.
Either way, worth it for the looks and added noise.

Having seen the evolve video of the eventuri you get a much better appreciation for what it's doing over the OEM airbox and filter. I'm still really surprised that the RS6/7 doesn't have the two separate intakes that the S8 has for the same engine. As an engineer that to me makes a lot more sense. However, Audi obviously get the level of performance out of the stock airbox that they want but it just seems to be such a compromise. The eventuri at least reduces some of that compromise by having two separate feeds from the airbox.

The Eventuri has a carbon intake scoop just behind the RS6 badge on the grille to direct more air up into the air intake.

I love the look of the Eventuri and the technology makes sense but (call me whatever) I will not spend £2150.00 on an air intake box and filter that most will never see. The gains they quote are marginal, approx. 20bhp or so above whatever stage of tune your car is at, that makes it around £100.00 per BHP. A good dyno remap costs around or below £1000.00 and typically releases over 100bhp making it £10.00 per BHP.

I agree nothing else looks like the Eventuri and it is a work of art making the engine bay look very special but the AWE one claims the same power and torque increased and is only approx. £1100.00. Still a huge amount for an air intake and filter most will never see.

I do appreciate that to some here £2150.00 is pocket money. I can also afford it although it's not quite lose change to me, but I just can't justify it to myself for the reasons stated.

Each to their own. However, it was a fair bit less than £2150; that is the full manufacturers price. Ask site sponsors AP Automotive for a more reasonable price. Don't get me wrong, it is still expensive, but not £2150 expensive.
I also have the AWE filter one you mentioned and I think the Eventuri is better performing, sounding and looking. However I didn't buy it for the performance, that is just a bonus. I tend to spend a bit on under bonnet mods; even if no-one else sees them I see it every weekend when I'm cleaning under there. But, if I was after a performance mod I would have definitely spent the money on a remap instead. But that would also have definitely lost me my warranty. With an air filter though I think I might still stand a chance of a warranty claim if the worst was to happen.

Thanks Mike, I will ask them as I do think it looks amazing. It is interesting though that both they and AWE make roughly the same claims in terms of performance.

I hope you appreciate that I'm not calling into question you kudos or criticising in any way, just stating the reasons I find it hard to justify. Also, I am quite new to the forum and RS6 and so wouldn't have any idea how many people have seen your bits
