I spoke to Audi UK this afternoon and they confirmed about the plastic key, they wanted to pick this up with the dealer but I said I will try one more time with the dealer. I have sent a direct but firm email to the dealer with my concerns regarding the missing plastic key that can open and start the car, so in theory who ever has the plastic key lets say they were a thief can get my address and take the car.
Surely with these cars Audi should have some kind of triage when they accept them to be sold.
Can’t wait for the response from the dealer.

My now rejected car only came with 2 keys, as the dealer lost the original set and got replacement ones made. The MMI also said it had 2 keys initialised too. I should have taken this as a flag to leave the car alone :(

Get to the bottom of this ASAP I say.

Did the dealer admit to losing the keys? And if not how did you find out they were replacement keys. Can I ask did you reject the car because of the keys issue?

How do you see how many keys are initialised?

Yes the dealer did tell me the keys were missing as I was due to view it, I didn’t reject the car because of the keys but could say it’s because of buying the car without a test drive, highlighting some issues which dealer didn’t fix

Can I ask a favour off someone, the Audi dealer I bought the car off is under the impression that the plastic emergency key will not start the car, so I want to prove to them that it does start the car, so if anyone could prove that would be great. Now as I did not get the plastic key with the car this is a potential security risk and needs addressing so trying to work out what angle to take.

It does start the car but you have to hold the key right up against the aerial on the dash.

It most certainly does start the car. It is designed to be an emergency key to fit into your wallet it’ll be pointless exercise if it DIDNT start the car. If I remember correctly also that it’s also a Valet key which only allows entry and drive but will not unlock the glovebox therefore allowing you to keeping personal items safe in the glovebox while car is in garage/ valeters.

Edit. The angle I would be taking is I would want them to completely change all barrel locks on the car (door lock and glovebox) and I’d want a complete new set of keys including a new plastic one.

And surely the dealer has an A6, as this isn’t special for the RS6, that they can prove to themselves?

Yea you would of thought that a major midlands dealership would know all this, but when a customer informs the dealership of how the emergency key works starting to have my doubts!

I've been an C7 RS6 owner now for 6 weeks and had exactly this issue. MMI was showing 3 keys initialised and i was given only 2 digital fobs and NO plastic key.

I contacted the dealer who to my surprise told me NOT TO worry about it, leaving me totally flabbergasted at their attitude. So I immediately spoke with Audi UK and simply asked
them if there was a security risk to which they agreed and on my behalf contacted (phoned & emailed) the dealer.. .. who then promptly jumped through hoops to get me in
and have the MMI system updated to the only 2 keys in my possession.

Prior to this, the dealer had mentioned re-initialisation would be a charged for service but thankfully it was all done without any cost to me and in under 30 mins. I have to say the sales/customer service people at the dealership seriously need to educate themselves on matters such as this. They spout such proverbial I suspect my 6yr old could smell it. I cannot
believe i bought the car from such tools.

The no plastic key issue... that is still up in the air. I was told get a tracker and steering lock disc .. PFFF.

So there’s still a key out there that will open your doors and give potential intruder 30 seconds to fumble around with your car. You need to go back to AUK and demand all your key locks to be changed.
