Why Dunlop?

When I collected my RS6 I was a little surprised to see Dunop tyres on the car and that all C7s were produced with Dunlop tyres. I was expecting the car to come with a set of the usual suspects such as P-Zeros or Mitchi's...

I know Dunlop were famed years ago for quality tyres but their absence from Formula 1 and motor racing on the whole lead me to believe they had had their day. I guess also most people associate Dunlop with cheap golf shoes from Sports Direct.

Why Dunlop?

It’s the luck of the draw between Dunlop, pzeros or contis and all three are specific to RS6 C7’s being that they are the only ones which are RO1. You can also get Michelin in the size but aren’t Audi approved. A lot of new Audi’s now have Hankook fitted, which is what I have on my Q7 at 22inch and so far I can’t complain.

I think it is more to do with a commercial deal between Audi and the tyre manufacturers rather than performance otherwise they would only come with one tyre brand / type. The RS6 C7 came with a random option (that you had no influence over) of either Dunlop Sportmaxx GT, Pirelli P-Zero or Continental Sport Contact 5. None of which impressed me much. Michelin Pilot Super Sports I found to be a better tyre. And even without the noise reducing tech that the 3 factory tyres had, I can't hear any more road noise.

I just swapped factory dunlops for P-zeros, which I seen this earlier, would have looked for Michelin Pilot Super Sports, no one they ever offered them in the 21" size

They are around... https://www.camskill.co.uk/m74b0s4805p1 ... se%3A_73dB

However you have to go to 295 instead of 285 - everyone assures me they'll fit - have yet to check personally but confident I'll have them on later this year! Just need to finish off my Dunplops first!

He mentioned Super Sports which ARE available in 285 size.

The site you linked is the Pilot Sport 4S, a completely different tyre.

Unless it's changed recently the 4S is/was only available in 18"?, 19" and 20". The SS has a wider choice of sizes.

Very true, and having run both on my C5 I can add that the PS4S is a vastly superior tyre - hence my recommendation and the link
