Launch Control

Post by aerospace100 » Mon Aug 13, 2018 8:25 pm

Lots of old posts on various forums about this but I haven't yet seen a proper answer. Does the RS6 2017 have launch control and if so, how do you do it?

I have heard on older models that you must turn off AC, disengage ESP, left foot brake, accelerate then remove brake. You must also have the wheel perfectly straight. This doesn't work however.

In the Merc AMGs you must do the above but also pull both - and + paddles which engages the launch.

Any ideas, or does the function not exist?

No is your answer. You can hold the car on its brakes but that is it.

Thanks a lot. That answers it then. I thought that would be the case. Mind you, its quick enough just planting it from standing.

To put it another way. All the Audi range which have a S-Tronic gear box has launch control. Even my A3 tdi s-tronic has it. The C7 RS6 is a fully automatic Tiptronic gearbox and doesn’t have launch.

Sounds like a strange decision given the purpose of an RS6 compared to the purpose of an A3 TDi

Cost and complexity. A suitable double clutch gearbox didn’t exist within VAG until the latest Panamera and that’s at a different price point.

As Eddie said as the car is an auto and not DSG so it has a proper auto box that doesn't have a proper launch control. However, if you turn traction off and put it into dynamic mode, press the brake then press the accelerator it will hold the revs at about 3k and hold the car on the brake for a sort of launch. This can't be good for the box and clutch though. And not a proper launch as the car will creep if you are not from enough on the brake.

Ditto Mike. As you can see Aerospace, its a sort of poor man's Launch Control, as it only has a small amount of electronic control behind it - sufficient though to cancel it if you "launch" and turn at the same time, but no one-stop Launch Control Button/select. As you say, it accelerates from rest very quickly with little effort any way and some owners, I gather, particularly if they have had their cars pushed to 750 BHP and beyond, have managed to shear their car's prop-shaft bolts with too many fast launches, so beware.

For launch control not breaking the equipment, see here.

I’d never have let go of the steering in the RS6, that would’ve been direct to the ditch.
