Auto Handbrake doesn’t stay on & replace start/stop button

Post by EmilA » Thu Jul 05, 2018 7:12 pm

Each time I start the car I have to press the auto handbrake option (that’s what I call it), got use to it from our GTD and reading the manual, it should remember the last setting and stay on, right?

And how hard is it to replace the engine start button? The E on engine has got abit funky and I don’t like. The middle “line” has got rubbed off and it looks silly so want it replaced, best to just get replacement from Audi and lift the trim and fit it myself?

From memory it only works if you have the seat belt on so if you get in the car and your seat belt is still off when you start the car then the function will be off too.

Thanks Mike. I do usually start it and then put my belt on.

When you have your seat belt on you don't have to manually release the handbrake either, just press the accelerator and it will automatically release. If you have VCDS or some other way of coding then you can change this so that the handbrake will also release with the accelerator even if you don't have the seat belt on.

Pretty sure the factory-set behaviour of the auto-hold is dependent on MY. Not sure if the change was at FL or perhaps an earlier MY, but early cars required the driver to select the auto-hold function at each start-up.
