I’m in for new discs (steel) and new pads all round and I was wondering about prices.

What are people paying for supply and fit at Audi dealers vs independent specialist garages?

Ideally I’d like to try and get a main dealer to price match an independent specialist garage.

Anybody have any views on prices?

I’m assuming £2k for front and back at a dealer and £1,500 at an independent garage?

I’m also 2 weeks away from exiting the manufacturer’s warranty and entering into 6 months of the approved used warranty (I bought the car when it was 2.5 years old from a dealer). My point being that I may have been able to get the package done at an independent garage with OEM parts and hold the warranty whilst it was under the original factory warranty but getting the package done at an independent whilst under the approved used ‘warranty / insurance policy may be different?

(I’m aware the brakes themselves are consumables and don’t fall under these warranties as such, but I think the non main dealer fitment of OEM parts can be associated with other component failure and void the warranty. I’m probably being over cautious too!

I paid £2200 for mine £1200 for fronts in nov last year and £1000 for rears in jan last year. I don’t think there is much discount to be had in brakes/pads as the indie I was considering was actually more expensive when I did an initial comparison.

Sounds like I’m being optimistic if I’m hoping to get all this done for £2k...

As an aside I hear a little grating when stopping now which I assume means the pads are really low but I haven’t seen any wear indicator warnings come up.

I assume the RS6 has a wear indicator light / warning of some kind?

Yes it has a wear indicator but there have been a few stories of discs worn out before pad light comes on. I don't think inside and outside pads wear evenly so just because the light hasn't come on yet doesn't mean they don't need changing. Sounds like a bad design. Mine felt like they were grinding before the light came on too.

FYI there is only one sensor on the front axle but there is also one on the rear left as well.

How many miles is reasonable for s full set? I’m at 24k and I can feel the brakes are fading / juddering and no light on

According to a pushy (non supplying) main dealer, my fronts were in the zone for replacement at 14k miles (but none of the dealers I spoke to at the time were going to actually confirm this, as they knew I would go straight back to the dealer who supplied the car and start making mischief about the low level of wear left on an approved used car).

Now at 19.5k miles they definitely need doing and they squeal something rotten.

I guess I was always going to replace the discs and pads at least once in my ownership of the car and so when then I would incur this cost, so I’m not too miffed about the supplying dealer. I also get a warm fuzzy feeling of goodness knowing I’ve replaced discs, pads, fluid, refurb’d the wheels and put new rubber on.

I have a feeling that the state / wear of the discs and pads are more sensitive to bedding them in correctly and how you care / use them over their life than outright ‘use’.

I needed a new set all round at 28k. Discs were below min thickness at the front but pads still had life. Rears other way around. I think you are looking at 2k with a deal. Always change together - I tried just new pads on the rear and got judder 1000 miles later.
