Fuel Consumption

Post by RSQ » Tue May 22, 2018 4:47 pm

So; I drive at 70-ish most of the time on motorways but (like most of us here) cannot help myself when I have to go away from anything (lights, whatever) of using the full weight of my right foot as it just makes me laugh.

However the car is now showing after 15,000 miles that it averages 29.8 mpg.

What am I doing wrong?

This is close to my Golf GTI of 3 years ago which did 36mpg on the same journey. Madness! :beerchug:

Mine is showing 21mpg after 7000 miles of mixed driving, how on earth can anyone manage almost 30?

30 on (some) slowish motorway trips but to AVERAGE that.... I would go by litres required top to top when refilling and use the trip. Computer must be wrong.
PS I averaged 23mpg and I thought that was being gentle.

I rest my case. 400 miles from a 16.5 gallon tank means you are actually getting 24 mpg. Which is more like it - still much better than most.

I definitely do not have the extended range tank. Driven sensibly in manual, 70-75mph and averaging early- mid 30’s.

I have a 45 mile comunate in the morning and thanks to traffic flow and managed mways the on board computer gives me a 30mpg reading.
However this soon takes a kicking when I get off the mways 8) .

I often fill up when there is only 180 miles or so since the last fill up. And I don't evencdrive it that hard or sit in traffic ever.

But I don't wait for the red light to come on either so could probably get a few dozen more miles out of it.

Does the C7 suffer from the fuel fairy like the C5? Last half of the tank goes mega quick and you lose around 20 miles in the fuel range overnight?

weird.

Very repeatable 30mpg reported by car and 420 miles before it shows zero range.

Even on a trip from Suffolk to Switzerland including >1 hour in Germany on and off over 140mph it reports 26+.

But can not argue with range divided by tank capacity maths.

Either way better than I expected.
