Oil Usage and Spec
Oil Usage and Spec
Hi had the RS6 for a month and stuck 2000 miles on already. The car had a service from the stealer when purchased, however the top up oil flashed up last night saying 'top up 1.5ltrs'. Whilst not totally sure the service dude had filled the correct oil level ( lets assume so) is this amount of oil usage anywhere near normal?
Also i have found you can get shell helix ultra professional from Eurocarparts 5ltrs for £22.10 (with Spring55 code) which meets the required VAG spec.

Re: Oil Usage and Spec
Mine required no top ups in 30,000 miles.
Re: Oil Usage and Spec
That's pretty remarkable by any standards Mark. Is that allowing for it being topped right up when it has had oil changes?
I decided to change the oil on mine every 9,000 miles or thereabouts, so more frequently than prompted by the car's MMI. Its just has its second oil change (8.7L was used I gather) and I thought it just sipped oil, seeing as I have only added 2 or 3L myself in total, but then I am used to the B7 RS4 needing a litre every 1,000 miles or so!

Re: Oil Usage and Spec
Mine is on 4K miles from new and the oil indicator still says max.
I was expecting to have to put some on by now as I had to with the B8 RS4, but it seems happy

I am not sure you need to top up oil level until system asks, you can drive when your oil level half shows on mmi, don’t think that it should show always max
Re: Oil Usage and Spec
The oil seems to burn quicker the older it is, so if you only do 6000 miles between services you will probably never need to fill it up. But after about 6k the oil seems to start to burn quicker and need topping up more often.

A very recent and relevant quote that just popped up on my Inbox, from our mostly American cousins on Audizine C7 forum, on the topic "MMI too much oil?" :- "So indeed there is a "too much oil" warning that will come up if you overfill and another timbit of info for everyone....Between the min and max lines on MMI, is 1L of oil fyi"
I have not had a "too much oil" warning, but the difference between Min and Max does seem to be about 1 litre, so it pays to be careful when topping up.

It had an oil change every 9000 or so. Otherwise nowt despite keeping a close check.harrier wrote: ↑Thu May 10, 2018 11:16 amThat's pretty remarkable by any standards Mark. Is that allowing for it being topped right up when it has had oil changes?
