Respray or not?

Post by rtd » Fri May 04, 2018 1:45 pm

So car has picked up a few scuffs both front and rear bumpers and one wing. Allied to this the front is heavily stone chipped and some car park dings on doors and the rear arches showing signs of rust. Plan is to keep car until around Sep 2020. Quote for all work is £3k. What you guys think get it done or just use it as is then take hit when selling? Mechanically it’s 100%. Does annoy me seeing the imperfections but living in London people got no respect for you car. All the damage has occurred since I moved down last year.

If you have only been down a year and all the damage has been done in that time - I'd look at other options as you will be shelling out again come resale time - just get the bad bits done to tidy it up and hang on until 2020 before respraying

Perhaps get the rust on the arches sorted. You may well find you can get a wrap matching your paint colour to cover sections that are scuffed very effectively, making them much easier on the eye and adding some protection against future marks at the same time - worked for me. :)

Someone may know far better than I do on this but as I understand it, Audi carries a 12 year warranty against rust on all unmolested panels (ones which only they have been responsible for painting). I'd take the car to Audi and get them to sort those bits out and go from there.

My understanding is that only rust coming up from under the paint is covered so if you can actually see the rust it must have occurred due to a stone chip or other paint damage so not covered, but if it is bubbling up from under the paint then it should be covered.
