Exhaust valves
Exhaust valves
Hi
Is it possible to disconnect the exhaust valves/flaps so that they are always open?
I had an XKR a couple of years back and it was simply a case of pulling fuse 11.
Any help appreciated!
Tim

Re: Exhaust valves
Yes. First thing I did. They will cause an error but it won't show up on the dash, you'll only see it if you plug a laptop in or use an ODB app. I bought some milltek valve delete modules that plug into the wires and trick the car into thinking the valves are still connected and working to eliminate the fault. Cost about £45 for the pair.
Re: Exhaust valves
Thanks Mike.
Do you need to protect the socket side of the connection once disconnected?
Cheers

Re: Exhaust valves
I believe the delete modules do that for you.

Re: Exhaust valves
Which fuse do you need to pull? And do you have to do that with them open? Or is it not that simple?

Re: Exhaust valves
No fuse, just unplug them.
Re: Exhaust valves
Up to you.
The car side of wire and plug will be protected by the modules if you buy them as Chris said. The socket on the exhaust is up to you. I didn't bother.

Hi Mike
Where can you buy the delete modules for exhaust flaps?

Re: Exhaust valves
Does this make the car noisy from 1000rpm rather than when you put your foot down?
...and silly question, do the miltek valves work with the standard exhaust?

Re: Exhaust valves
These are just simple caps for plug that connect to the exhaust valves. They simply protect the connector and also prevent a valve error being logged (as the ecu can detect the valves being disconnected).
It will just mean your valves are permanently open - making it the simplest ‘more noise’ mod.
If you replaced the exhaust with, say, a Milltek one then that would include its own valves. Normally you would connect them up just like the originals and they would behave in the same way.
If you want more control there is a ‘Valve Control Module’ made by Cete (and sold in the UK by Milltek). Which connects in between the normal valve connectors and the valves, allowing you to override the behaviour (including permanently open in Dynamic mode, and permanently closed in Comfor mode).
I have both a Milltek exhaust and the valve control module

Re: Exhaust valves
Thanks for explaining! New C7 owner here!
I don't want to change the exhaust for now as in warranty but some more noise would be nice

Re: Exhaust valves
Tried unplugging the valves today. (Waiting for the Milltek delete to turn up)
Is there a technique!! Seem stuck in and couldn't feel a clip whilst rolling around on the floor!

Re: Exhaust valves
There is (like most plugs) first a lip you need to pull out, then press... If notmistaken the lip is on the topside (could be wrong and it on the underside). Happy close space area, like always :p.
