PS4S is the replacement for the PSS. Is is meant to be better and it's cheaper too. This is defo the tyre I'd choose for the 20s.
I think it's the other way round (thanks Michelin for making things even more confusing.

Pretty sure the PS4's are a direct replacement for the PSS, but the PS4S replaces the Pilot Sport Cup 2's. It's all in the apostrophe:) That said, i could have that the wrong way round, but seen several debates on the M Forums & R Forums & i'm sure the above appears to be what i'm reading.

Edited to add that the PS4's are widely available in many sizes, but the PS4S is a little more specialist so not available in 18" for the Golf R, but is for the 19" option wheel & also not available in 19" for the M5, but is available for the 20" option wheel.
Take note all sports drivers… 2017 will see the launch of the latest super sports tyre from Michelin designed specifically for sports cars, high performance saloons and hyper cars. Initially in 19, 20 and 21 inch sizes with further sizes expected, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is described as the second generation Michelin Pilot Super Sport – a revered favourite amongst manufacturers and performance drivers the world over.

Why the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is a big deal
So why is the launch of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S so important? Michelin has taken the best elements of its Pilot Super Sport tyre and adds what the French manufacturer has learned from the highly lauded Pilot Sport Cup 2, to produce a thoroughbred sports tyre offering drivers and manufacturers a fantastic balance between performance, safety and longevity.
Knew i'd have it wrong, but knew i'd seen a link with between the Sport Cup 2 with the new PS4S.

Annoying i can't get PS4S in the size for my Golf R:(

Anyone who hasn’t tried these tires you really need to. Car feels literally transformed cornering so much better now and with loads of grip, wet weather traction is amazing. I’m shocked a set of tires can change a car this much.

Told ya so!! Glad you like them!! :beerchug:

Now come on Michelin - we need some 21" PS4S please!! I've just emailed Michelin UK to see if there are any plans to do a 21" version in a size that will fit!. I'll share any response I get here.

If you can stomach a non-standard tyre size they make them in 295/30/21 for about £288. Aside from the obvious extra width, the sidewall will be nearly 3% higher and an overall diameter increase of 1.1%. This equates to a speedo error of about 1mph at 90mph.

Michelin are really missing a trick by not making the PS4S available in any 18" sizes - not to mention RS6 21" size!

Good question Jimbob - and related to it:

I have a set of 5mm spacers from my C5 Beast - will they fit and still leave the wheel properly engaged with the hub - cas if so, it should solve any problem with 295 tyres.

C5 was 57.1mm centre bore wasn't it? C7 is 66.6mm so they won't fit.

Thanks Mike - I haven't had to take a wheel off yet!

So we're left with the question of whether anyone has run 295/30 tyres, and whether there was adequate clearance??

On the C5 we used to have to grind off "Ol Knobbly" to improve te clearance - perhaps I'll have to take off a wheel and see if he made it down the generations!

Hi All,
Just ordered my Pilot Super sports as that's the only 21" tyre they do for the RS6. I am not sure if you guys are aware but as long as you purchased through one of their Dealers between 1st Mar and 30th April you can claim back upto £100 cash card. Managed to get a good deal from a local supplier and as I bought 4 have claimed the full £100:
