DRC Front shocks ???

Post by skirs6 » Sun Jan 14, 2018 11:36 pm

I’m starting to get a slight knocking when going over speed humps or pot holes. What’s it likely to be? Top mounts ? DRC pressure ?

Is it not under warranty anymore? They have recently introduced some updated shocks so even if it is not under warranty they might still replace them.

Loss of DRC pressure, old spec dampers, faulty DRC valve - could be any of those three (don’t ask me how I know). There is a revised damper design to stop knocking. DRC leaks can happen to any car but if prolonged can lead to valve damage too.

Mike yes it is. I’ve noticed a slight knocking for a while and this was end of used car warranty check. Just thought I’d ask on here rather than being fobbed off by Audi.
Watch this space it’s booked in end of the month 👍

Possibly related.... on full lock the front end judders really bad. Like really alot, the front of the car feels like its about to fall off especially reversing off the driveway ! When at audi i mentioned this but told “ its quattro sir” they all do that ( my first audi by the way). It feels like its gotten worse and i feel potholes and crappy road surfaces alot more. Could this be shocks or a mount? Or do they actually all do that??

Judder is normal to some degree in this situation. You can’t defy physics and one tyre or another has to drag on full lock. Add in incline and it will be worse depending on direction.

Also gets worse as the tyres wear and the temperatures drop and you have less grip. My RS4 and RS6 both do this.
But they don't rattle over bumps etc, that does sound like a suspension issue.

I’m told it was the pressure in the system was a little low now back up to pressure and noise has gone according to Audi 🤔🤔

It's due to bushings (silent block).
Apparently it's a common problem with RSes and I just had mine replaced under warranty in December...metal grinds on metal, instead rubber.
Noise is gone after the change.

I dispute that on the C7. My bushes are like new at 30k. Dampers are the known issue and subject of upgrade under warranty. Leak the next most common issue.

Seems ok now the pressure is sorted👍 Still pissed off though. I dropped the car off last night and put two new tyres in the back to be put on the front as these were picked up on the MOT. I actually phone’s first to make sure it was ok to replace the tyres as they had the car for as long as they needed. Got a call this evening stating the car was all done. Went to collect only to find the new tyres were still in the back. The answer from Audi “ Ah we didn’t have time” So why the F### phone me to collect stating the car was all ready ?????

It’s a week down the line and guess what ? Still knocking and feels far too firm in comfort. I can only assume they have over pressured the system to try to hide the knocking ?? It’s back in again Monday

Update 👍 Looks like four new up dated dampers/shocks hopefully done by the weekend under warranty. Unfortunately as far as warranty is concerned, that’s it my used car 1year warranty is over😫 I have to say I’m so glad I bought this car from Audi as it’s the first car I have ever bought from a dealer all my previous cars have been private purchases and never had a major problem with any of them. This however depending on the cost of four new shocks plus labour Will be into the high £40k for warranty work. Let’s hope I can just enjoy it now👍

Mine needed two new DRC control units / valves too as running with low pressure has damaged them.
