High beam assist too slow !!!!

Post by skirs6 » Sat Dec 30, 2017 7:18 pm

This is really starting to annoy me now. It’s set to the quickest yet nearly always too slow to react to other cars. I’m continually being flashed. Am I doing something wrong?? Can this be sped up in any way ??

It's not pre-emptive like you would be, so the light has to hit the sensor. Also at this time of year with so much grime on your windscreen sensor and other peoples lights, it slows the systems reaction down.

The matrix LED works perfectly for me, never been flashed once.

I had a couple of moments with the matrix when he steamed into full beam unnecessarily, but for the most part they were splendid.

I don’t think you can adjust the speed - from what I understand you have adjusted the sensitivity to low light that switches the headlights on.
The matrix lights are good but getting flashed is par for the course in my experience (both BMW and Audi) and I tend to go old school and do everything manually. I would not pay extra for them had they not come as standard.

I like them more than I thought I would, like Mark I wouldn't have specced them but on dark lanes (and there are plenty in Devon) I find them very effective. I have had problems on dual carriageways and motorways with getting flashed so I go manual.

On the basis that they are matrix lights, could one drive around with their high beam on all the time or will that dazzle other drivers? I've never really got the concept, I'm a thick Northern scouser!!

Agree Foxy - was driving on Devonian lanes in the rain last night.

That is the idea - they dip only in areas required (eg rear of car in front or oncoming traffic) leaving full beam on either side of other vehicles. They can handle multiple “targets”.

Iain, they also turn off if you drive through a brightly lit area as they are not required and would be impossible to spot an incoming car or if you are following a car to dip the lights. Living in the sticks with mostly unlit roads I would prefer if they would remain on full beam but you have to activate it each time you drive the car.

Works perfect for me. Are your headlights clean?

The only time mine has thrown a wobble is with a maintenance trouble with the yellow reflective triangles on the back.

Normally have mine on auto all the time.
