New drivers side mirror glass

Post by Ajabe » Tue Dec 19, 2017 1:44 pm

Just been quoted £383 to change the mirror glass as the demisting has stopped working working  Seems ridiculous but my first experience of RS ownership and of course now out of warranty.
Anybody changed the glass themselves and know where I can get one not at main dealer prices? Many thanks

The glass is expensive, wherever you source it. It’s also a pain to remove, even techs hate doing this as it often breaks.

Ask for the breakdown of costs as that seems heavy on labour, the glass is certainly a couple of hundred quid, so how do they get to nearly 400?

Thanks for that - so steer clear of eBay for the glass then?

Great advice from doodlebug - I asked for a breakdown of the cost and they immediately offered a goodwill gesture. They will supply the part gratis and I only pay the labour of £42!

It's a doddle to change. Just get a couple of glass suction pads from amazon for about 3 quid, use them to pull the mirror out and disconnect the 2 wires. Job done.

PS, the mirrors are the same as the rest of the A6 range so don't need RS6 glass, any glass from an A6 that is heated and motorised will do (not Dimming are they?).

Apparently they are dimming, had no idea (only had it 4 years :sleeping_2: ). Was one of the reasons Audi gave for the price of the glass - does that really make a big difference?
