My car is with Audi at the moment. They have told me the spark plugs need changed at 20 000, as it is the PE edition. Is this correct? Cost £429!

It went in for its first service, then told as it was close to 20000, the spark plugs needed replaced.

Why would the plugs on a PE need replacing when those on a standard car don't? Can the over-boost make that much of a difference to the life of the plugs?

The PE uses different spark plugs to the non PE. Also all RS6 suffer from high misfires although most of the time it goes unnoticed. I thought Audi change the spark plugs as a cure. I assumed they were rolling out the PE plugs to the non-PEs becuase of this but maybe it's not the case, maybe they are changing PE plugs to a different type too. When MRC tune this engine they change the spark plugs to a different type.

Is your point that they are charging a lot for labour? I assumed they were hard to get to and needed a lot of other bits moved to get access. I don't recall seeing the ingition coils on the top of the engine like you can on other Audi V8s.

Yes. Will we had a look at the engine, and they appear to be pretty accessible. On the top like you would expect on a V8.

Ah OK, maybe I've just not noticed them due to the plastic engine cover.

I'd be tempted to ask them to do the service and take it to a decent indie for the plugs, as with all consumables you can save yourself an awful lot of money without affecting your warranty as long as the parts are OEM.

I was at unit 20 yesterday and he said he would recommend changing plugs on all Rs6's at 20k miles. He also said he would never leave these cars on a long life service, 8-10k miles for oil change.
