Any pics of cars lowered with H&R 20mm springs?

Post by Webber498 » Thu Jul 20, 2017 1:12 pm

Hi all

Just wondering if anybody has pics of their car lowered with 20mm H&R springs? (And with spacers ideally)

I had a search and found one from the front but hard to see clearance.

Any issues of scrubbing at all? I know there can be with the 40mm kit.

I ask because mine has been lowered with 20mm springs and has 10mm spacers on the front and it looks very close indeed!

Mine is lowered on 20MM H&R and I don't have spacers. It is pretty low at the front and I don't have any scrubbing issues.

Thanks mate! Looks good on those wheels, suppose they are probably a more aggressive offset than the standard wheels anyway hence no spacers needed.

Will see how I get on with mine and if it scrubs I'll have to lose the spacers

Wheels are 1" wider than stock with same offset hence aggressive look, spacers would be too much on mine. Good luck with fitting of yours

Yeah mine does seem to rub on the front under hard cornering or if I hit dips in the road... that is with a 10mm spacers.

I'm sure I read a few people with exactly this set up that said they got no rubbing.

Interested to hear from anyone with the same as me - H&R 20mm springs and 10mm spacers

Thanks

It will be down to tyre sidewall profile.

E.g.....Pirelli look naturally stretched even OEM

Dunlops have a very "square" sidewall.

Mine is actually on Continental Contisport 285/30/21

Not had the car long at all but I bought it approved used from Audi and assumed they were standard OEM tires

It's a December 2015 facelift non PE model

They will be OEM tyres

Audi use a range

My point is all OEM tyres have different "profile" side walls

Some quite square some more rounded....depending on thins is whether you may get rubbing.

Ahh yes I see what you mean, they are quite square on the sidewall.

I removed the small plastic mushroom screw from the inner arch and that got rid of a lot of the rubbing, unfortunately I continued to test it and went over a bump with a bit of steering angle which managed to bend out my front wheel arch!!!

So yeah 10mm spacers need to go... Im amazed how low the 20mm H&R springs have sat the front end of my car. There is no gap at all now, I'm worried it may even rub without spacers if I'm turning hard and hit a bump.

Will test without spacers next... shame as it looks amazing now. The stance is awesome but can't put up with the rubbing

I thought my 40mm springs with 12mm spacers on the oem 20s were a tight fit but I haven't bent the wing. It is so close that if I sit in the car and turn the steering wheel side to side I can hear it rubbing the arch.

That part where it touches on yours is where I bent it out, it's only a slight bend out but that was in one 30 minute test drive, albeit quite a bump in the road I wasn't expecting whilst turning. It made a horrible noise!

Mine doesn't touch like yours when stationary though. Does yours hit the arch badly under hard cornering?

I think I saw pictures of yours with the PE wheels and no spacers also, is that right? Do they still catch or are they ok?

Thanks for the input, appreciate it!

Cheers
Adam

Yes that sounds like mine. With the PE wheels and the 285 tyres I can't run any spacers at the front at all. I don't notice it rubbing but there is no paint on the inside of the wheel arch so it must be rubbing slightly. But that is with 40mm springs.

Even with the screw removed there is a part of the wing sticking out still. Might be worth trying to bend that in a bit to make some clearance.
