Stage 2 C6 RS6 v standard C7 RS6

Post by don0301 » Sat Jul 08, 2017 9:28 am

Hi guys

Theoretical question at the moment

I've had my C6 3 years next month (That went quick!), 770ps 1100Nm (MRC)

I still love the car, but realise at some point I'll have to move on

Due to the price and some stories I've read, If I got a C7 I would keep stock and warranted (at least for a while)

What would be the pro's and con's of moving? The differences between them?

Have a trawl through the C7 forum loads of threads on this very subject.

However, in a nutshell your moving to a car with much newer tech, better gearbox (by a country mile), better handling, more aggressive styling, better mpg when your not gunning it and a more up to date interior.

As above, but the handling / ride is in a different league and prompted me to buy a 6 for the first time having tried both C5 and C6.

40k+ to change to a car with newer tech which is slower?
Don't do it.

Nothing can touch a mapped C6...

Even a tuned C6 can't live with a similarly powered C7, the C7 GB is just too quick.

Aye. And it's nice to go around the odd corner from time to time. Whilst the C7 is no winner here it will at least give it a go. The C6 is just incapable.

Brave man with a big wallet to run a tuned C6 these days.

They are quickly approaching the age where you debate how much you actually want to spend on an old platform.

Really? lol

Fair enough, I've had H&R ARB's fitted

I think the car handles really well, exceptional for it's size and weight I think

I've had mine nearly 3 years (next month), with a worthless 3 year warranty I've never claimed on

Had no big spend other than mods (Demand full custom exhaust and dp's and MRC stage 2)

Running 770ps and 1100Nm, 0-60 2.9 0-100 6.7 213mph and still pulling top end

Had some extra work done, oil cooler pipe, wing coolant pipes, 1 engine fault <£1000

Probably lost £5-8k in depreciation?

how much has a C7 RS6 lost in the same time?

Unbelievable car for the money then when I bought it, and now

When will anyone make such a bonkers car again?

Fair enough, times move on, but I hardly feel I don't have an Epic car

Don the C6 IS an epic car and I loved my 'loon for the year I had it. But as everyone else says it's an old platform-12 years now and whilst you have done the ARB's etc the C7 is so different it's unreal. The difference in weight is only around 80kg I think but the way it feels and handles is like a much lighter car. Not sure how they did that but it's awesome. Lower down torque is great and the brakes are much better than on the C6 (mine were stock). As for tech well it knocks the C6 out of the park and having start/stop in traffic is a revelation after just sitting in traffic (in the C6) watching the tank slowly empty whilst going nowhere. Fuel consumption is a lot better too-on long runs at a steady pace you can get a genuine 30-34 mpg whilst in the C6 I had to drive like Miss Daisy to reach 23/24 mpg.
It's a much better car mate. It won't be as quick as your tuned one but it's a lot more than just speed. I test drove a 680 bhp GT-R a few days ago and it was savage and easily the quickest car I've ever driven (0-60 in 2.5) but driving home through heavy traffic in the C7 I really noticed how comfortable and refined they are whereas the GT-R is all about handling and speed.

Steve you really should of mapped your c6. The difference between standard and Mrc stage 2 is hard to explain, much easier to feel. I took mine from a mtm 660 to 753 at mrc and I initially thought I'd got back in the wrong car it was that different.

I didn't mean to start a fight, just looking for opinions.

I haven't actually been in a C7.

Just looking to the future, what to get next.

Not long after I'd stage 2'd mine, I tested a nearly new R8 V10 (not in my price range but they let me drive anyway) and a 2010 911 Turbo at a nearby garage. Was disappointed tbh! The porsche obv felt smaller and lighter but didn't feel as quick until silly speeds and had much worse turbo lag (maybe a dog?)

I should get myself into a C7 really

Probably not looking to change until at least next year anyway

Thanks for the replies :)

Standard C7 will feel slower than a mapped C6...

Mapped C7 not so

I loved my time with my C6....cost me thousands in repairs...

C7 is no track car, but the dynamics and tech blow the old C6 out of the water.

So much I'm on my second C7...lol a 605ps PE model...more than quick enough standard believe me.

Well I've done the natural progression C5 to C6 and now C7. Very sad I know but I did quite a bit of forum surfing before I purchased each one. Checking all known problems and possible costs.
The C5 was mainly gear box and DRC but I never had any problems with either and sold a really nice car on after 3yrs of ownership it was also MTM mapped.
The C6 was mainly 50 pence oil seal and coolant pipes again never had a problem with either and sold on after 3yrs of ownership again MTM mapped a total monster 👍
The C7 after surfing the forum no obvious problems unlike the first two. After only 5 months of ownership and totally standard un mapped I have a total engine failure and a warranty claim touching nearl £40k.
The C7 is still the way to go hopefully this is just bad luck. Can't wait to get it back 👍👍
