Just to share with the group - was using Texaco Super Unleaded (because of the Virgin Miles I can collect)

Doug@MRC said to stop using it and only use V-Power or Momentum; Tesco's is nearer and have now filled up for the 4th time and Damn, it feels more responsive, seems to idle better, run better; almost intangible, but "seems" so much better than the 97Ron.....Plus it's only 117.9 for Momentum and was being raped at 128.9 for the Texaco

I've been using Tesco's M for last few years bargain and car loves it.

I seem to live in a Tesco petrol garage black hole. Nearest one is 15 mins drive away.

Luckily I have a shell 2 minutes away. V-Power baby

Momentum or V-power I'm equally happy with.

Whatever RON your ECU is mapped will impact the performance. So let's say your RS6 is 98RON from the factory, a slower burn rate fuel (95 or 97RON) will result in slightly reduced performance as expected. By using a 99RON fuel, your car will run as intended (to 98RON mapping). One could argue you're not getting a 'gain' from the extra 1RON, you're simply running as intended, but we all know a higher RON fuel may see 'pick-up' gains, due to the physical way the fuel is burnt.

Only shell v power 98

I thnik we're all pretty familiar with the siuation regarding octane, the curiosity is why in the UK 97 or 99 RON are widespread, whilst europe seems to get 98 - for which most production performance engines are tuned. I don't recall seeing any 98 RON in the UK of late.

Personally I use M99, I object to buying products from a company that 'gives money' to ferrari.

Surely most production performance engines adjust accordingly using knock sensors etc.
Both my now rather old D2 S8 (1990's tech) and almost-new Volvo T5 do that automatically and both say pretty much the same about optimum performance and fuel economy being achieved with 99 Octane fuel but will run happily on 95 (or worse in the case of the D2). One is NA and the other turbo so rather different ways of getting peak power.

More octane more power, but sometimes if it's too much octane detonations can accur that makes problems for engine

Momentum for me as well, especially now 'New V-Power' is in some instances 12p a litre more than Momentum. Don't know where Shell get their pricing from but they are even more so now a rip off and V-Power is not 10-12p/litre / £7 a tank better than Momentum

Agreed. I used to use Shell religiously, but having sold my S4 and moved house to within a stones throw of a Tesco, so I use Momentum for the Audi. I also recall reading more than one thread on here saying Doug at MRC was consistently seeing better results on the rollers with Momentum than V Power

Having said that, I still use Shell for the 205, never Momentum, due to the fact Momentum has a higher Methanol, Ethanol and Bi-ethanol content which is not good for old cars. Last time I checked it was something like 15% at Tesco and 5% at Shell, but these may have increased since

Only use momentum unless urgent and been same for last several years. Luckily 24hr Tesco only 5mins away

I thought everyone knew this already but maybe it is discussed in the B7 forum more. Yeah Doug has been saying for ages that he prefers to map with either Shell or Tesco as they are the 2 main (only?) uk 99rons suppliers. And he got slightly better results when using Tesco than with Shell.
But I've heard some people say that Tesco is not as good as shell when it comes to the actually quality of the petrol and somebody said it was normal supermarket fuel but additives were added later in the process so not as consistent as the Shell which is done at the refinery (or wherever). But I've also heard that Tesco is supplied by BP or one of the other big companies so not sure what to believe. But at the end of the day, Tesco is significantly cheaper than Shell and both perform well. I've been using Tesco for years with no issues.
