The New F90 M5!!

Only placing in here as the C7/8 RS6 will be it's natural adversary.

Details coming out thick & fast as the launch gets closer. EVO & i think it's Autocar have articles this month & i believe EVO have driven the new M5.

Got a teaser from BMW last night that added the 0-62 time to the other info released to the press over the last few days & they're stating 3.5secs

Highlights are it's (as most already assumed/knew) AWD but with 3 modes, that being AWD, AWD Sport which offers a heavy bias to the rear wheels & RWD which can only be selected with DSC fully off. The engine is a revision of the current F10, but with new turbos, injectors, cooling & no doubt other internal modifications that will output 600bhp, it's mated to an 8spd ZF transmission & the car overall is about 50kg lighter than the F10 M5, which is somewhat impressive given they've added AWD. Other highlights are the HUD will be 70% bigger (no idea why they felt the need to do that), it will of course have all the funky new tech as seen in the rest of the G30 range. I'll for sure be keen to see the post launch reviews, but it certainly looks like it will be an interesting motor & a huge leap forward from the F10 M5 which personally i thought was epic already.

Stolen from another source:

When Jumping Jack puts on his racing suit, the innovative M xDrive drivetrain system of the all-new BMW M5 allows complete control over driving dynamics and traction. That’s the punchline BMW is using to explain the all-new M xDrive system for the equally new F90 M5.

The M xDrive system enables the rear-biased set-up by only bringing the front wheels into play when the rear wheels aren’t able to transmit any more power to the road and additional tractive force is required. The driver can choose from five different configurations based on combinations of the DSC modes (DSC on, MDM, DSC off) and M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD Sport, 2WD).

It's going to have to be AMAZING to make me even consider moving from the C7......can't wait to see the C8.....so tempted to get a letter of intent on an allocation, but don't want to rinse £30k in depreciation and 6200mils as mine did when I purchased her - someone else can take the hit....

Having come from many M cars thy really are deserving of the respect they get. Feedback, driving feel ++++
We can now see the E63S and what it can do, next it's BMW's turn. One good thing for Audi is that it can see what the competition has produced before unveiling the C8. Healthy competition is always good and the RS6 doesn't have that many contenders-it's too easy to close rival 'fast' cars down and everyone tends to back off and give you room I have found since joining the RS6 gang. Sometimes that's not a good thing.

Is that the same g-box as the C7?

It's says an 8 speed ZF which is what the C7 has. Might be an updated version I guess.

I was expecting more hp, don't think it will beat Rs6 from a straight line

They haven't yet confirmed it will be exactly 600bhp so could be slightly higher.

If the Mfctrs are quoting 3.5sec then it certainly should be quicker to 62 than the current RS6 as isn't that 3.7 or 3.9? I accept a few are a touch quicker, but BMW like Audi do under quote a touch. No idea what the C8 will bring & that could be quicker, but I reckon the C8 won't offer up any more than around 600bhp & as it's already AWD, not much they can do to enhance the sprint time.

Video doing the rounds tonight of Timo playing on track in the new M5 & it looks very quick & they appear to have the new car sounding spot on. Timo certainly loves it.

Also, didn't Audi confirm they won't be following AMG & BMW, so won't offer the RWD feature? The new M5 will feature 3 drive settings which could be interesting & something I don't believe AMG have done.

Bottom line is this sector is certainly hotting up nicely.

I've not seen anything, but surely Audi will do something with the SQ7 engine as that i guess will be the 'difference' needed to stay in the game. Eeeking a little more power/torque out of the current engine with no major other changes, won't offer up any USP for Audi.

BMW have gone AWD with the RWD option, AMG have also gone AWD with the RWD option, so if Audi stick purely to a little more power, it may not be deemed attractive or interesting enough for those in the market (however i'm sure Audi will still opt for Avant only for the RS6 so that removes the M5 from anyone wanting an Estate). Using a more powerful variant of the SQ7 engine will give that extra advantage the others haven't adopted & would likely knock a few /10ths off the 0-62 & 0-100.

I'd guess once the M5 launch is official, Audi will start the pre launch info dripping though for the RS6.

Has anything been announced for the C8 S6 yet?

Audi won't go the SQ7 route. It's diesel and that's off the map for performance. See LMP1 withdrawal.

But couldn't they slip that electric motor onto the V8 petrol in the same way they have a V8 Diesel?

I guess so, by engine build is now a joint venture. I can't see it giving more than the current engine, different characteristics yes.

Can't complain about these Mfctrs raising their game in such an impressive way. Always the case where the punter thinks where can they possibly go from here, more power, less weight or more toys perhaps & then they decide to go AWD with a RWD option, thus covering both the safety & reduced traction in poorer conditions issue, but still offer the option of an involving/dynamic drive for those who crave it & in the M's case, still reduce the weight of the car.

No I meant for the M5. I couldn't see any mention above of engine size or cylinders.
