Still looking !

I thought the car i have been waiting for had appeared, heard about it Friday, low millage nearly the perfect combination of bits so gained permission from the wife, stuck a holding deposit on it and off we went. After a four hour drive, got to the dealer, the car from a distance spot on, everything I wanted. Wife opened the door and first words were , I am not spending £65k on a car with the drivers seat looking like that !

The car has sub 3k on it and the bolster on the seat base was very creased and the seat base was shiny not a mat finish like the rest of the seats, I have seen a couple of others with 7 and 9 k on them and they were fine, but looking at photos of cars in adds they seem to vary. Is this a common issue and can it be sorted, i can't face spending this sort of money on a car and the seats look like they came out of my old discovery with 140k on it !

The sales guy said they could sort it but I cant see them getting the creases out myself. I have discounted this car for now but for future reference it would be good to know.

Have they got another RS6 in stock?? Ive been to see cars and they've offered to swop the seats with another car they had for sale.

You can't fix the leather, you'd have to replace or re-trim the bolster. I'd be amazed if a dealer did that.

Sounds like a one owner many drivers car.....

They said they could sort it back as good as new , I questioned that but told them I had my doubts , actually got to the point of taking money and it was asking price no negotiation the price is the price end of so I said fine and walked !

It had done 2499 Miles form memory and whilst all I could find wrong with it was one pinhead stone chip on the rear door I really could not get my head around spending that on a car with the seat looking like it was out of high mile car.

The search continues, but getting bored with it now, its stopped being fun !

I personally don't think they wear well... My seat has become slightly shinier than the rest and the seat base sides, on both seats,(door side) are becoming creased even though i exit the car fairly carefully trying to avoid just that. The car is 2.5 years old and done 19k although noticed this around 15k.

Nearly 19,000 miles and the leather could do with a bit of treatment but the alcantara looks like new.

I know this may sound completely odd.. But an old trimmer trick showed to me years ago was to place a hanky on the leather and then iron on warm heat over the top.

The hanky is to avoid direct contact with the leather.. I've personally tried the trick in my B7 RS4 and it reduced the crease lines significantly.

Note: Be very careful and ensure you dont make contact with the hot iron and the leather.

Same as Mike, 9K miles in and the alcantara still looks like new. I had the full leather in my C7 S6 and for only having done 45K miles in it, the leather on the driver and passenger seats was rather shiny looking.

Cheers chaps. It's definitely my preferred choice when it comes to seat finishes, although finding it in a non PE model looks impossible.
