RS6 C7 to NEW M5?

Post by Powerenhancer » Wed Apr 19, 2017 1:39 pm

Although I am not ready to give up my C7 RS6 just yet the new M5 is alleged to be AWD. Anyone tempted?

That will be an impressive machine but will still look like a 520d from many angles. The flared arches is what makes the RS that little bit different!

Not much good for the monthly sprint to the recycling centre and DiY store.

Don't think anyone can't beat Audi's Quattro system

There is rumour that their new AWD platform can be switched to RWD mode. This would seriously up the game if true.

My last BMW was the E60 M5 and I hated it except for the engine noise. Horrible interior, crappy gearbox and unable to get the power down when needed. I think BMW will deliver with the new M5 variant, especially if the above is true and it looks anything like the M3.

I just hope Audi come up with something special in the C8 RS6.

The new Merc is switchable between AWD and RWD so wouldn't be surprised if the BMW was too.

With the forthcoming models it's a juicy prospect for future ownership. Audi RS has dominated this end of the market for a while now and it will be nice to have some genuine alternatives to the RS6. I pondered other cars to have after my C6 and only came to the logical conclusion that the reality was a C7. Shortly the playing field will be a lot more level with AMG & M. One good thing is that RS will be able to see what M & AMG have produced before launching the C8. Should be a cracker!

I moved out of the C7 RS6 to a new S3 and was planning to retire in 4.5 years. That's on the back burner now. New M5 is very tempting. Looking forward to its release and see how it stacks up against the RS

Indeed-when I was scoping out my C6 I considered staying with BMW, I could have picked up a well sorted and specced 2012 F10 M5 for around £30k...same price as I paid for my 2009 previous model RS6. No regrets at all though.

Aye makes you wonder what keeps audi residuals that high?

I think it is to do with the discounts on M cars. I got something like £15k off my F10 M5(I looked at the Rs6 at the time and discounts were negligible). When I sold it back to the dealer I never lost a penny, that's never happened before. Until recently Audi did not offer that sort of discount but seem to have jumped on the band waggon now as I got around £14k off my C7 RS6.

I guess it all depends on what sort of discounts BM are willing to offer on the new M5 and how many cars they move.

Could certainly be an interesting car & likewise i hear BMW will offer as per the new E63, the option to lock out the front wheels to offer RWD only.

I'm sure Audi will be looking at this closely, as could threaten their AWD dominance if the other 2 main contenders offer AWD with bells & whistles.

I recall a recent article in which an Audi chap stated that they would not be offering 'switchable' Quattro.
