Coil Pack Failure
Coil Pack Failure
Morning All...
Having returned from a 3k mile drive across Europe yesterday, I approached the Calais Eurotunnel terminal, fortunately at around 10 mph, and the engine management light and EPC light appeared on the dashboard and the car went into limp mode. Embarrassingly, the car was jumping all over the place but I struggled to get it onto the train and when I came out the other end in Folkestone I called Audi Assist which was about 5.30pm.
Around 7pm an AA man appeared in a yellow van and diagnostics confirmed the fault was coil pack failure which he could do nothing about. Thankfully the car is still under warranty, but I then had to wait until 10pm for a flatbed recovery truck to take me to a service station only half way home, and then another recovery truck arrived around 12.30am to take me the rest of the way. Considering I live only 1.5 hours from Folkestone, a 7 hour delay, after a 10 hour drive earlier that day, was quite unpleasant.
Has anyone else experienced this fault in the C7? The car is just over 2 years old, done around 18k and is unmodified. Should this be happening or am I just unlucky ?
On the plus side... the car drove extremely well through Germany at 160 mph : )
Thanks in advance

Not experienced that failure but can certainly sympathise with the utterly useless aa and audi assist experience as have spent many a half day waiting to be collected by a truck

Re: Coil Pack Failure
The joys of AA relay. I broke down in Cornwall once whilst living in Leatherhead. It took four trucks to get me home. Left Cornwall at about 4.00pm and got home at around 3.00am.
Re: Coil Pack Failure
Do they not carry coil packs now or he just didn't happen to have the right one?

Re: Coil Pack Failure
The chap who turned up was a really nice guy and explained that Audi Assist technicians do not work over the weekend and they are the only ones who carry stock.

Re: Coil Pack Failure
Just had a call from the dealer to explain that the car needs further investigation and requires a complete engine strip down due to total combustion failure... and that could take up to two weeks !
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Coil Pack Failure
I thought the coil pack issue of yesteryear had been fixed now. I haven't heard of any go on a C7 before so woudln't be surprised if it was something else. Spark plugs are an issue with modified cars although yours is standard.
Also worth noting Audi have been working on a misfire issue for a while allegedly. Do you know which cylinder it was? I think the issue was primarily with cylinder 5. When I checked mine with VCDS there was a much higher number on one cylinder than all the others (I had no errors or noticable faults, I only checked as someone else on here was having issues and asked people to check theirs).
And I wouldn't expect an AA man to carry a spare coil pack, but Audi Assistance probably carry one.

Re: Coil Pack Failure
The diagnostic report carried out by the AA man mentioned cylinders 5,6,7 and 8 and complete combustion failure although Audi said today there appeared to be no compression on 1 cylinder (I took that as 1 cylinder as opposed to cylinder 1). However the engine strip down is apparently necessary to establish more detail. I don't understand the mechanical side too much so can't dispute anything they tell me. Hopefully the next few days may reveal more and i will of course update.MikeFish wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2017 7:51 pmI thought the coil pack issue of yesteryear had been fixed now. In the meantime I am still awaiting a replacement vehicle !

Re: Coil Pack Failure
First replacement vehicle I got was a jag f type, after a little discussion this was amended to an rs5 with bald tyres then after another discussion they replaced the bald tyres with part worns, when the rs5 needed a service they put me in a dogged rs4. It's luck of the draw, the way to get a decent car is through the replacement vehicle service from audi and insist on rs6 this way you get offered things like Maserati ghibli or sl63 and the like.... luck of the draw
