Panoramic roof service?

Post by si_b » Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:17 pm

Just booked my car in for its first oil service at 9000 miles and 16 months. Having the inspection and pollen filter done at the same time because the service display says I'll have to come back in 6 months for that anyway.

Well, after ringing around and getting vastly differing quotes, I went for Lake District Audi at £360 (me to supply oil).

At the time of booking, the service rep asked if I wanted the panoramic roof servicing as Audi recommend to have them relubricated every 2 years. I politely declined as it seemed like a load of BS to me.

Has anyone heard of this requirement before or had it done?

Interesting. Mine is 18 months old and has just started creaking (as many do) so I lubed it myself with silicon grease. Problem sorted.

Audi was £99 for the pleasure of doing it!

Anyone had this done recently, I have just been quoted £505 for this, which is madness.

I had the panoramic on my Cayenne, Porsche serviced it for free, workshop manager said it was a 15 minute job tops.

What are they doing for £505?!

I think they must be using unicorn grease or something

My car's been in today for oil and filter service, I've been offered the sunroof service at an eye watering £245 (half the price of the oil and filter service!) However they couldn't do it at the same time as they apparently have to order a parts kit in to do it which includes the requisite lubricants but also some other bits and bobs on the mechanism that will be replaced. I'm leaning towards biting the bullet and going with the dealer option after looking into potential DIY solutions, has anyone else paid for this recently via a main dealer? If so what price were you charged?

Seems they don’t hold any parts. Mine needed spark plugs and air filter, but needs to go back another day as they have to order them in.

My last sunroof service was about £160, I think they also clear the drain holes

If you do not get it done it will effect any warranty that it has, same as always getting gearbox and final drives serviced as Audi recommend.

This is very timely. I bought a 2016 RS6 from North Wales Audi back in March during Lockdown effectively unseen and the sunroof started leaking about 2 months ago. Having waited 3 weeks to get it into Bedford Audi for an inspection, they confirmed that the sunroof seal was faulty. They put a warranty claim into Audi and it was declined! The cost of a replacement is the princely sum of £1100 which I think included the wind deflector! As you can imagine I was none too please so contacted North Wales Audi directly and they confirmed that "seals are classed as an consumable item and unfortunately wouldn’t be covered under the Audi warranty. This would apply the same to a face to face or distance sale" which is a whole other subject. This also applies to any window seal would you believe.

Long and short is that they've now kindly offered to replace the sunroof seal as a gesture of good faith and they collected it this morning leaving me with a nicely spec'd VW Arteon.

The irony is that the sunroof on my 1985 UR has never leaked and yet a 5 year old sunroof on a top of the range model does so glad Audi are really moving forwards on things! I am obviously very happy that North Wales Audi are doing the right thing but clearly it's incredible to think that window seals are considered a "consumable item".
