Initialised Keys

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me how many keys their car has initialised? Just had mine in for some warranty work and the car has 3 initialised. I might be being paranoid but I could have sworn there was only ever 2.
A little worried after the recent posts on the forum about cars being nicked/attempted thefts.

Pretty sure mine says 3 too. Does the plastic one count?

I don't think so. That doesn't have the immobiliser chip in it. But I do feel better that it's not just me.

The plastic key also counts as a key. It DOES have a chip in it and you can use it to start the car. It's designed to go in your wallet as a spare key.

Aye. No bloody use without a chip in it.

FYI there are 2 parts to the transponder in a key. There is an immobiliser chip and an ignition chip which can be separated. Need both parts to start the car. The immobiliser chip will deactivate the immobiliser but the car still won't start without the ignition part.

So does this mean the plastic key is initialised or not?

I'm sure I could start my RS6 with the plastic key and it defo had 3 keys on the MMi. And I've been out and tried the SQ5 with the plastic key and that definitely starts with the plastic key and the MMi shows 3 keys in that as well.

Yes I think the plastic key is initialised. Point I'm making it is more than just an immobiliser chip needed in the key to start the car.
