iPhone music MMI issues
iPhone music MMI issues
So its never been a big thing but since day one, my iPhone/s have never worked well with the MMI. The song info and album art etc all displays properly, but when I click next song from the cars controls, it freezes and I have to unplug and replug to fix it. I can scroll backwards in the play list to go to another song. The list shows the current song name for the entire list. As soon as I hit next, it all crashes.
I've changed a few iphones and done a few iOS updates over the years and its the same. It was never a big problem and I never bothered to take it in. I have my annual service in a few days so I thought I'd bring it up since warranty is up the follow year.
Does any one else have this problem? If so do you use Spotify or just the native music app?
thanks for any help/info/testing.

I have other issues. iPhone keeps jumping to the next track every 5 seconds. Rarely does any display in MMI. Have to unplug/replug. iPhone 6 latest version and RS6 PE. I doubt dealer will have a clue so haven't mentioned. Hopefully a patch will fix it at first service
Current Audis: Audi RS6 PE, Audi RS3 Sportback
Ex-Audis: RS4 B8, RS6 C6, A6 2.7Q, A4 2.8Q

That's wishful thinking.
The MMI interface has always been iffy. I had an update at the service in October and it didn't make any difference. It did bugger up whether it used the external phone or the SIM if you have one, though I didn't spend much time trying to sort this.

I've got a 120gb iPod Classic (discontinued but can be bought off eBay) in the centre armrest, it has all my music on it, works flawlessly including cover art.
Pointless using streaming services where I live as there is no mobile coverage!

I have a number of harddrives connected with all my music on and as above works flawlessly with cover art too.
Re: iPhone music MMI issues
From experience there is always issues with phones, not just iPhones, my M4 had problems when the OS started updating also so it's not just Audi!
The iPod is old OS now but works brilliantly, when you plug it in to the car you actually get an Audi logo on the iPod screen, they must have worked closely together many moons ago

Re: iPhone music MMI issues
I am using a modern iPhone 6+ S and am not having these issues.
I am using the Audi provided coiled black cable to the USB in the central arm rest.
I am able to use the +/- keys below the gear stick/volume button as well as the other button combos.
I get most of the album covers and menu options.
Apple is known for having deliberate issues with third party lightning cables (smaller double-sided plug) if they are third party and don't have the Apple chip on.
What cable are you using and what phone/OS are you using specifically.
I am not certain if there were dual USB sockets in the central armrest (away from car right now) and if their function differs ?
Any of these spring to mind ?

Yes there are 2 usb sockets; is labelled as phone I think. Not sure if there is any difference between them. I use them both for hard drives and they work the same. Not sure if there is some phone functionality only available with the 1 socket.
Re: iPhone music MMI issues
Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've connected my 120GB iPod Classic and can't get anything to come up when I go into media. The iPod shows the Audi logo and says connected.

Seems everyone has problems, Yeah I had a feeling it might be hopeless. I do think its not acceptable, not only for the price of these cars, but that they are iPod "certified". Everything works in my older 2012 Porsche. Same phone, same everything.
Anyway, cars in service today, told them to sort it out under warranty. No calls yet and nearly at the end of the day, either they've done a update and fixed it all they are all still scratching their heads. Working in software myself, I have my doubts if the dealer can fix it. I just find it ironic my phone works better with a $50 Bluetooth amp than a $200k car (in NZD)

Re: iPhone music MMI issues
yes ipod or iphone with MMi mine has always been a bit 'buggy' not too bad, just the odd freeze , restart required etc
I have apple carplay in my latest RS6 , and that works perfectly, not had any issues at all with it , so clearly that interface works a lot better than the Audi MMI

Re: iPhone music MMI issues
Folks regarding connecting your iPod do you have to use an Audi USB cable or should a regular apple USB cable work?
Re: iPhone music MMI issues
Apple is fine. The Audi one is a bit <beep>.
Re: iPhone music MMI issues
I have used the coiled Audi cable supplied with the car and also an Apple white cable.
Both fine in my car 95% of the time.
