Firstly, thanks to everyone who contributed to my recent question about RS6 ownership. Based on your advice I've kept looking for the right car.

I've found a 63 reg. car in my local Audi dealer and am very tempted. It has DRC, pan roof, HUD, active cruise, LED lights and 21" wheels. It's done 35000 miles and I'd be the third owner.

What's likely to go wrong with the car in my ownership and how much will the repair bill be? Is it going to cost me a fortune to run and repair?

I'd be very grateful for your feedback.

Brakes at at least £2k a set - you car will be on at least its second set by now I would guess.
Tyres obviously - 8-15k miles per set depending how you drive.
Servicing up to £500 per year /10k
Otherwise robust and no weak areas come to light yet (other than occasional DRC rattles and lots of buckled 21 inch wheels).

Have Audi taken any responsibility for the wheel issue? Do they offer any concessions or discounts, and would I be able to claim under warranty in the first 12 months?

Is there a after market alternative for the wheels?

Like all quick cars....they cost a fortune to run and maintain,(every job budget£500) when they go wrong they cause you a massive headache...

But I wouldnt have it any other way!!...if my GF actually knew what I've spent on cars and Modding them over the years she would leave me!!

I tend to cruise fast and get just short of 20mpg. Any hard work or back roads and you are in single digits.
Tyres ditto, lots of weight, performance and braking can rub them out fast. MPSS improve the braking well.
Check your insurance and ask the dealer if the car already has a tracker fitted and which one.
Alloys - I had a nasty experience with the 21" Perf. Y Alloys. They went very eccentric at 6000 miles. They did not replace but they "repaired".
Two owners in that period ? I would ask why they moved it on quite quickly, just in case.
Also ask to see the service information on the Audi computer to see if it has had some significant work. You will see a thread on this section about a car being sold by Reading Audi where the car had VERY significant electrical gremlins and is for sale on the forecourt.

Its a great car but when you spend that much it is always good to dot those i's in full.

Both 21s seem to be affected (normal and performance). OE Audi 20s are forged and stronger, but 21s defo look meaner. After market one solution if you want 21s but v expensive for good ones.
I just did a 350 mile round trip to Salford (motorway except for 50 miles) and got 31mpg driving fastish. Overall 23mpg in 18000 miles. 2016 model f/l.
PS I think my computer may be optimistic - another VAG emissions tweak

There arn't any weak links as far as I'm concerned. Having come from large capacity N/A v8's, the fuel economy the RS6 gives for its performance bracket is very good (early 20's mpg over around 6k so far) and for a 2 ton car, the tyres and brakes last very well.
Not had any real issues yet and from past experience with audi (having owned a tuned S6 previously) my dealer is pretty good in respect to customer service and servicing. I never knew previously that you could haggle on service costs!!
Bottom line, choose the right car and you will really enjoy the ownership experience!!

I'll visit the dealer tomorrow and view the Service info. and hopefully come to a decision. That said, I currently feel like it's too daunting a prospect to cover those costs.

I think these costs are a bit overblown.

I am into my third year of ownsership and 14,000 miles. I don't really find the car much more expensive than say an 1M/M3/RS4.

Servicing once a year ~£500
Petrol - Over two years I have averaged 24mpg - only a bit less than my z4 3.0 10 years ago, now that is progress.
Tyres are at 4mm - so will need changing in a few months but I did not expect them to last this long - (had one bad puncture but that was sorted on tyre insurance)
Insurance £400 a year

The bigggest hit is depreciation as ever - which makes these costs look like chicken feed.

It takes all the kids/dog/bikes, looks amazing and goes like a stabbed rat when you want to. Just brilliant.

The only unexpected downside, which I think is poor on Audi, are the 21" wheels. They are soft and Audi don't handle it under warranty. 2.2k for two to be fitted was a sting in the tail. But, IMHO, get one with 20s and you have the best allround car on the road bar none. Oh and get the top view parking cameras, makes parking easy and protects those alloys.

Or buy aftermarket 21 inch rims not from AUdi

p.s 2 owners of a car not very good idea, i would look only for 1 owner
