Is there any way to program individual mode to the steering wheel button?

You can program the favourite button as a Drive Select button though can't you?

Bit of a pointless button isn't it really, much prefer the M buttons on my M4.
Another pointless thing is that touch pad with 1 -6 on it, why can't it be used to do different things ala the BMW system?

It can. I can't remember if it was an optional extra though. I use mine mainly to draw the letters for sat nav input.

Not Pre-FL.

Mine turns the heated steering wheel on and off, but also has a different icon on it.

Ah, wonder if mine does that, do you know what the option was called? Had this on top of the dial on the M4 and it was proper handy!

Look at this post:

Does yours look like the one in the first picture? If so then it is just a number pad (but can probably do multiple things).
If it looks like the ones in the other pictures then it is the touchpad that you can draw on etc.
This might have been a facelift thing rather than an option.

It can also be used like a mouse / trackpad when using google maps / streetview.

Post FL mine does radio channels and allows you to draw letters for sat-nav as you outline. No ability to program those 1-6 keys outside of this that I have found.
Pity they did not let you input letters on the touch surface when in Media.Radio mode to find by album/artist faster than using the damn scroll wheel.

When listening to media yes it does have the 1 to 6 buttons but if you use the MMI buttons to go to search then the 1 to 6 goes out and you can use the touch pad to type the name of the song or artists you want to search for.

My cars a FL so it must be touch sensitive, I'll check it out on Saturday when I get to drive it.
