I'd really appreciate the Forums advice on the following:

I'm considering buying a 2015 RS6 from an Audi dealer. The car has a great spec. and I've negotiated a price of £60,000. My questions are:

1. How do owners usually pay for their cars, PCP, other finance or buy outright. Which is better when you're spending this much on a car?

2. If finance, should I choose Audi or another provider?

3. Should I expect to keep the car forever or am I likely to get tired of it / it's running costs and want rid of it? How long have you had your cars for and what do you intend to do with them eventually?

4. What should I expect to pay on servicing and maintenance each year, assuming I do 12,000 miles per year?

5. If I keep the car for 3 years, will it have depreciated by 50%?

6. Is there anything else I should know?

First of all welcome and hello m second awesome choices third have you checked orange wheels. I was quoted £63k from the factory and a really low Apr. But it's a low spec one.

I pay pcp on mine which means I can't modify it which has me now, 1 year into ownership, looking at replacements (not because I don't absolutely love the car, I just prefer modifying). It was also the only time I ever plan to get a brand new car. Get online quotes on finance and take them to Audi, who will likely match any comparable offer.

What is the spec, colour and mileage on the car?

I looked at the OW route but to get a "deal" the car was very basic and delivery was after March so £1800 road fund fee so went 12 months old with all the toys.

Depreciation is always hard to gauge but the RS6 does hold its value well after the initial drop from new, just look at the C6!

How long have you had your cars for and what do you intend to do with them eventually? - the RS for me is a keeper - at least 2-3 years; you will struggle to find another vehicle that can wear as many hats as the RS - pop to the super market, drop the kids off at school - then embarras a lambo from the lights

4. What should I expect to pay on servicing and maintenance each year, assuming I do 12,000 miles per year? Big Service at Audi was £523 incl parts and VAT; fuel costs will be your Achilles heel, depending on how you drive - average around town 15-18mpg; on a run - up to 34mpg; tyres last (again depending how you drive) 15kmiles (mine did) - brakes - my car is at 20k miles and pads 50% worn.

5. If I keep the car for 3 years, will it have depreciated by 50%? - more than likely - my RV after 3 yrs is £22k - though after the horror of 2008 financial crisis, the funders are VERY conservative on the residual values so as not to get their fingers burned.

6. Is there anything else I should know? - yes - go and put a deposit down !!! you won't regret it.....

I disagree on that point, if you have the cash sat around doing nothing then an outright purchase is surely better, I paid cash for mine and need worry about nothing bar what the car is worth when I come to sell in around 12 months time.

If the car is to be kept for 3 years plus then I can see some benefit though, but again I don't like making large monthly payments on anything bar my mortgage!

A lot of people look at cars as monthlies, I know a LOT of people who are happy to pay over £1k a month for a car, I'm not one of them.

If you've got the money, then fair enough. I didn't have £100k sitting around doing nothing.

I don't think any IFA would say to sink a load of money into a fast depreciating asset. It's whether you could make the £100k work harder elsewhere, which you can. And if you can afford a near £100k car, you can afford the monthlies.

Will an IFA say anything bar put it in some sort of pension / tied in account

If you can get more on your money elsewhere fair enough, but @ 5.9% there isn't many savings accounts that pay that nowadays.

We all have our views on spending, my take on it is if you have the cash sat there why pay interest? We are all different though, and I didn't buy new so saved £40k

My car is on a PCP but I've modified the hell out of it. It will be returned to stock when I hand it back. But honestly my dealer never even checks my car. They've even said mod it just don't tell me about it

I just paid few pounds short of £1k for my 40k service. done 9k in last 3 months about 300 miles to a tank. takes around a litre of oil every 1200/1500 miles.

Question 1 & Q2 - depends on your circumstances as well as your views or investment requirements as you can see from the replies you have seen so far. I don't have the cash to shell on one but good luck to you if you have. PCP works fine for me, on a used I would deffo source the finance from a 3rd party and I used Oracle a few years back. Not a bad experience and rate was much lower than the dealer but a good call made by someone already if you want to avoid hassle you can ask Audi to match terms you find elsewhere.

Q3 - expect to lover the car and keep it for a good while - trust me I feel qualified to answer this one because I had one and sold it too quick last year because I talked myself in to needing something else. Truth is the RS6 is all the cars you will ever need and as someone has already said can wear many different frocks depending what you need it for. As a testament to this I have just ordered a new one so cannot wait.

Q4 - Never had a service so would not know to be fair.

Q5 - It will lose around that, what car doesn't.

Q6 - Yes, do it now!

I get fed up of every car I've had...grass is always greener etc.

That's why I've spunked tens of thousands on cars and mods...and to be fair apart from my latest whip got <beep> all to show for it!!

But hey ho....life goes on....your a long time dead...enjoy what you like doing...simples.

Fair point - I just see them as another monthly payment, albeit one thats circa £900

Audi finance deals on new cars seem to be much better than what they offer for used cars. Lower APR% and much better Dealer deposit contributions. Link that into getting a deal done and a reduction in the RRP of the car and hay presto, a half decent deal can be done for a 3 year Audi Solutions finance.
I put a little bigger deposit down that the standard deal requires but only pay around £650 a month. Got a very good final valuation/final payment which means I should have a good deposit sat there when my 3 years are up and I step into the new C8 RS6.

Thanks to everyone for your responses, they've really helped my thinking. I'm still struggling with the costs though. I might have eyes bigger than my wallet!

If I wanted to get into RS ownership, should I go for a pre-facelift RS6 or would a used RS4 be a good option? Cambridge Audi have a nice looking Daytona Grey one in stock. It's a 14 reg and looks pricey at £46990. Would a newer, or lower spec. one be better? Where there any facelifts?
